3rd Trimester

weird foot pain anyone?!

Hey ladies, I just entered week 36 and last week my feet started to really swell (actually it was mainly my left foot). My doctor said not to worry unless my legs start to swell or I get any pain... Im assuming she meant pain in my legs.

well maybe this is a little hypocondria, but as soon as I left the doc's office, in my RIGHT foot below my ankle bone on the outside it hurts, but only when I rotate my foot certain ways. Think "pulled muscle" ache... I've been wearing flip flops a lot and Im thinking it might be something related to the lack of support in them, I put ice packs on it and take warm baths and it really helps, but its there everyday. There is very little swelling in this foot and it certainly isn't spreading up into my leg...

Is this the type of pain I should be calling my doctor about? or is this some extension of sciatica (sp?) or possibly just a pulled ligament/tendon? TIA! :)

Re: weird foot pain anyone?!

  • I feel your pain...literally! I have been suffering with my left foot for weeks now. I think it is a heel spur. I talked to my OB this week about it and he said foot problems are VERY common thing/complaint, especially those late in pregnancy. He gave me a few stretches to do a few times a day, and the best advice was to stay off of them, keep them elevated and ice when the pain gets bad. Also, it is important to wear good supportive shoes.

Hope this helps! Good luck to you...there is nothing worse than tired, achey feet!

  • this is something that would happen to me- developing different symptoms as soon as i leave the dr office haha.  i have had unilateral swelling in my rt foot and ankle and have been told to watch for pain in my calf or leg, which could be a sign of a bloodclot.  i too have notice that my foot is sore- i think it is a combo of the painful swelling, walking weird on it because of the swelling, and wearing shoes with littlesupport because they are the only ones that fit on my foot. i would call your dr justto be safe, but im a big fan of just keeping my OB informed of whats going on and when in doubt i just call- im a ftm so i dont always know whats normal and whats normal for me during pregnancy.  good luck!
