We are going away next week to Key West. My younger daughter will be sleeping in a pack n play and my older daughter is too big for it now. I am very concerned about her sleeping with me in the bed.
I never shared the bed with her from birth so this is new to both of us. Plus both girls sleep in separate rooms in quiet...
We have a suite with two bedrooms (my mom is coming with us and will be in the second bedroom) My husband is sleeping on the couch...(he offered)
I don't want to buy any of those tent things or anything like that and I will bring a bed rail, but I am so nervous about the three of us sleeping in the same room and my daughter and I in the same bed.
any ideas? words of encouragement? I mean families go on vacation all of the time....I don't know why I am so nervous. I wish she was small enough to go in a pack n play!
Thanks
Re: xp: Vacation Sleeping Arrangements
Is it a fold out couch? When we went away after Christmas, DD slept on the fold out couch and was just fine. No rails or anything. We also used the crib during a previous trip (even though she was sleeping in a big bed at home.) And DD is very tall - she still did fine that trip in the crib. We've also brought along our pack n play and she's been fine in that (even after being moved into her big girl bed at home.)
I personally don't think I would sleep with our dd in the bed - she wouldn't fall asleep. She would be too 'keyed up' because I never sleep in the bed with her.
Well, you have a few options
1. Many hotels have cribs you can rent so if you thought she could sleep in a crib, you could go that route.
2. You could have her sleep between you and DH. Not the most comfy, but it works. We did this when we went out of town a few weeks ago.
3. You could set her up in a bed and build a pillow nest around her. I have also done this too.
4. If you have a pull out couch you could either put her on that or put the mattress on the floor. You could also get her a new fun sleeping bag and make a really big deal about how she is in a big girl sleeping bag for the trip. She may totally buy into that and go right to sleep. For that matter, you could lay some blankets on the floor and put a the sleeping bag on top.
WHen we have traveled we also bring an ipod and put on quiet music to help him go to sleep and usually pack his starry night turtle. We try and make it as close to home as possible.
You will figure out something. The great thing about vacations is you usally wear the kid out so much they will pretty much sleep any where you put them! Good luck!

We had DS1 sleep in bed with us on one vacay and it was fine. He was about your DD's age. We tried him being in his own room with a side-rail on the bed (we brought it from home), but he wasn't having that.
TBH sleeping wasn't awesome and super restful, but the kids were pretty tired at the end of the day and slept much better than I ever would've thought. It wasn't too bad at all.
