Pasta/grains

What kinds of pasta/grains has your LO had. What did you try first? How did they handle it? I'm trying to find new foods to give LO and stuff that will blend well in his purees....any suggestions?

Re: Pasta/grains

  • Shes had pasta and rice. I think she needs to get used to the pasta but she eats some of it.  She didn't like rice at first but she eats it now so I guess she likes it.

  • We feed her mostly what we eat and then some purees.  She has had pasta (cut up) but no rice.

  • Whatever we eat.  I like the penne shape for him though.  It is big enough for him to grab.

  • We have tried rice twice. The first time, she hated it, and would not eat it. Today, we gave her some and she absolutely loved it! Go figure. We haven't tried pasta yet on its own, but she has had chunks of it in the stage 3 foods and likes it, so I think we will be doing pasta next.
  • I gave plain pasta and rice in the mesh feeder a couple months ago, and DD liked that. I have given her macaroni and cheese (yes, Kraft) a few times now, as finger food. The first time she seemed to like it, but since then she hasn't really shown any interest in it. I'd imagine that any cooked pasta or rice would blend well into purees. Are you making your own meat purees?

Yes I've been making everything for him so far. Really more about being cost effective than anything else. But I haven't introduced pasta yet (he's had like one macaroni noodle). For meat I've made chicken (it was weird) and I used already ground turkey and made turkey meatball things for him.

How chunky is a stage 3 food?

You're such a good mama. I've made all the fruits and veggies, but not the meats. For some reason, I just figure Gerber can make it taste better than I ever will. :) I just go to Winco and use coupons. It ends up being like $0.40/jar.

How chunky is a stage 3 food?

It has actual whole pieces of pasta in it. It is hard to say how big exactly, but not very big.  Some of them have pieces of carrots or other veggies, and some have the pasta pieces, I guess to get LOs used to table food?

  • Andy has had pasta and rice.  He is basically getting all table foods now with only some purees (mostly when I am too lazy to cook something) <----eeeek...did I just say that?

  • I've made him penne with some oil and feta, which he loved, and we also feed him stage 3 jarred herb chicken and pasta, and some other meat pasta I don't remember. He liked them all. The stage 3 food are chunky, but nothing they can't handle.

Nick gets what we eat, I never bothered with  jarred food and only pureed for a week or too. I guess in a sense we do BLW.

I don't puree either pasta or rice. Rice was the first we tried as baby cereal, now I just give to her how I would eat it. I don't let her feed herself just yet, so I sometimes mix it in with some pureed veggies, or whole, but mainly a combo.

The pasta I also give to her like we would eat it, but I chop it up in smaller pieces, she's had this with marinara sauce and steamed broccoli. And also chopped with pureed veggies instead of the marinara sauce.

  • I've given a couple different types of pasta.  Penne, spaghetti, and egg noodles (all cut pretty small).  We use Gerber oatmeal or mixed grains in her purees to adjust the texture.  She also gets Mum Mums and multi-grain cherrios for snacks.  Oh yeah, puffs too of course :)  As for meat, the jarred stuff grosses me out. So I don't season a chicken tender for her while making our dinner and shred it up, same with steak.  I've gotten ground chicken thighs too for her.

  • Thanks ladies for the suggestions! I'm jsut trying to get things that are easy for daycare to feed him. I think I'm going to make up various pastas and cut it up so it gives his purees extra chunkiness. :-)
