prenatal massage

Anyone had one? I was given a gift certificate from work, went today, and O.M.G.......I already want to go back. For $65/hr, if I'm lucky I can afford to go back once or twice more before L&D-day.

Re: prenatal massage

  • I get one once a month.  It is AMAZING.  I just go to massage envy.  It is so worth it.  I'm looking forward to mine on Monday.  I have had so many back issues this month.

  • i had one near my birthday...trying to find the time to go back and get another...busy weekends get in the way, plus waiting for the stressfull family weekend to be over, so they can work that kink out of my back afterwards...they are so worth it.

Not sure where you live, but there are places that offer cheaper massages and are still certified to give maternity massages...hope you can find one!

  • Thankfully my sister is a massage therapist and has given me several! Unfortunately she's been super busy, so I haven't had one lately. I think I'm due for one pretty soon though. Heaven!!!

  • Yes, amazing! I am actually planning to make an appointment this month and hopefully I can get another in before LO is due.

  • My DH has hinted that for Mother's Day he is going to get me a certificate for one. I really hope so as I never got one when I was pregnant with DD1 and had wanted to.

  • I had one and LOVED it! I have a chiropractor place I go to for my massages normally but I decided to try a prenatal place and you notice the difference. I felt like they ignored the spots I wanted that really hurt but then over the next few days I noticed all the pain was gone.

  • Am I the only one who didn't like it? I LOVED massages before being pregnant and when I finally went just a couple weeks ago, I felt ripped off!

I had to lay on my side which I expected but it made it uncomfortable. The woman didn't massage most of my back because she said most of the nerves are connected to my uterus. She also hardly rubbed me...I'm not into deep tissue but some pressure is very welcome. She basically apologized the whole time because couldn't give me a real massage. It was basically if DH had given me one reluctantly (you know the ones where he goes "finnnne I'll give you a back rub" and then has his attention on tv while he half asses the back rub).

Has this been your experience or should I try a different place?

It is definitely not as thorough as the massages I've had in the past (I do like deep tissue), but it was relaxing and when I came home, I had a lovely nap from feeling so relaxed.

I didn't feel ripped off, I felt sick.  I went when I was pregnant with DD and it was awful.   I was sweating profusely, could barely catch my breath.  It was all I could do not to vomit right on the table.  The girl actually had to stop and get me some soda.

My back is killing me and I would love to have a massage, but I'm terrified of having the same experience again and wasting $100.

  • I loved it. The therapists did apply pressure (not like deep tissue, but good pressure) and they did work all the back. They worked the legs very lightly to prevent dislodging potential clots. It was very relaxing!

I got a few for free at work and I will be getting more soon. Can't wait!

  • Just had my first one today and I was in heaven! 60 minutes of bliss. I really want to get at least 1-2 more before LO comes. Totally worth the 75 bucks.
