Vent - No daycare and back to work in a week

So my work has an affiliated daycare center, but it's not available until August.  We made arrangements to do a nanny share with somebody in the n'hood.  We met the young lady early in my pregnancy and I felt ok with it then.

Fast forward to me trying to finalize things and get her background check (which we discussed), she said I didn't need to do it because the neighbor referred her.  WTH!!!  No way is somebody watching my baby without a background check.  So now, with 1 week to go, I'm searching for a nanny.  This blows big time and sure it'll be hard to find/keep somebody to work until August.  Thank goodness my boss is being cool about this, and I'm using all the websites.  Not the last week I hoped for.

  • In a month there will be lots of college students looking for summer work. I know that doesn't solve the problem, but just a thought.

  • I hear ya. We didn't sign a contract with our DCP until the Thursday before I went back to work. But it worked out, so don't stress too much :)

  • If you have a local community college with an Early Childhood Program, email or call the head of the dept. and tell them you are looking for a nanny. Most have job boards in the EDU depts. so ladies who have certifications and degrees can find work. Most of the women there will be CPR/First Aid and SIDS certified, have at least 12 hours of education behind them, and more than likely have childcare experience. Hope you find someone soon!
