Trying to Get Pregnant

How am I supposed to get pregnant?!!

I don't know where to start from! I just feel I'm losing control over everything that has to do with TTC :(

I travel for work (mon-thu), DH is a resident doctor and is on night shifts at least once a weekend. My period is the most irregular ever, no clue when to even expect ovulation or when AF is early or late..tried to temp, it was messed up due to travelling and i was so anxious about it,ended up waking ten times a night and getting many off readings..  CM was a good indication and now is being confusing!

My husband is taking the "whatever happens, happens" approach, so is not feeling the stress but I cannot wait to have a baby!

I know there is nothing about TTC that we can control, else we would have all been pregnant by now..but had to let my frustration with the situation out.

Hope you all have a great weekend and thanx for being amazing!

(P.S. had to create a new account, so a brief intro, moved to the States/OH last year, married for 3 years in June and together for 10).

Wow! I cannot imagine the challenges you guys are facing as far as schedules/timing sex for your best chances!!  I would say get in as much sex as possible when you are together....because really what else can you do?  Knowing when you O from charting temps and CM is great when you can do something about it, but I would say just have sex anytime you are both in the same city and off work.

Are the kiddos in your profile pic yours? Did you have trouble TTC before?  Good luck to you!!!

  • I know you may be thinking I should not get pregnant and bring a baby into this crazy schedule, but I can stay local once in 3rd tri and husband schedule should be much easier for a year starting June , so I was hopping to take advantage of that window so he can help me out..

  • We have timing issues, too, thanks to DH's work schedule. I use OPKs, temp and check CM to help me determine my fertile window. Some months, we just have to have sex when we can and hope for the best. Last month, DH was away during my FW, so we had sex the night before he left, and the night he returned. I think the day he returned was the day I O'd. I didn't get pregnant, but I can't be sure it was due to bad timing.

I would keep temping and see if you can establish a pattern of your own. I wake up several times a night, too, but I still have definite pre- and post ovulation temps.

If you still aren't pregnant after one year, you should make an appointment with your OB, or an RE, to see if anything can be done to regulate your cycles. GL!

True, I should stop stressing about temping and charting and just BD as much as we can when we are together, the lovely flower girls are my cousins. We are TTC #1.

  • Since you can't temp, have you tried OPKs?  I'd just have sex whenever you guys get the chance.  Sperm can live in fertile CM for a few days.

Thanks for the advice, will try temping again and see how it goes.. GL to you too!

  • I completely understand, I feel hopeless on many occasions.  Next month we'll have been trying for a year, we had one loss and my cycles are so crazy.

On top of that, we rarely have sex lately, but then I think what does it matter since I am clearly not ovulating.  I totally totally understand that it is frustrating for everyone who is not getting pregnant, but I would kill for a regular cycle right now.  Nearing CD100 is very frustrating (I'm going to the gyno next month so I'll ask for provera).

I'm sorry your timing is so difficult, good luck to you!

  • Welcome! I understand your frustrations regarding timing...my DH is also a resident Physician and work shifts, quite often we miss one another timewise and it's usually during my FW:-(! I also travel often for work, etc so of course that doesn't help either. I also don't temp on a regular basis because I toss and turn all night, and quite frankly it adds to my stress!

OPKs and charting CM have been working pretty ok, this month we've just made it a goal to have sex as often as possible (even if it means waking up at 2 am after his shift...lol)

    Good luck!!

I second the OPK recommendation.  Get on Amazon and buy a ton of Wondfo OPKs so you can do them as often as needed to try to determine when you may be O'ing.

    Good luck to you!!

FWIW, I would NEVER say that to you or anyone!  When it's the right time to have a baby, go for it!!  My H has a crazy work schedule too, but we know that it is the right time for us to TTC!  So go for it girl!

  • I mostly lurk here but just wanted to say that I sympathize!

I'm a resident also, and my husband and I often go several days at a time without seeing each other due to my crazy schedule.

I'm not temping, since I can't do it at the same time every day, and find my CM to be fairly bewildering. We're just doing our best to BD with some frequency around the middle of my cycle, and hoping for the best!
