diaper question

So, as my DH and I are preparing the nursery and some supplies we had already purchased, we ended up in a debate about the two packages of diapers I had already bought. They don't indicate boy or girl on the package.

He thinks that there are boy diapers and girl diapers. I am pretty sure that they are neutral until you get to the pullups stage. I am also pretty sure the gdiapers that we are also going to try are gender neutral.

Are disposable diapers specifically designed for baby boys and girls????

Re: diaper question

  • Disposables are neutral for the wee ones.  Gdiapers can be put on so that there's more absorption one way or the other, but it doesn't matter all that much.

  • I've heard from a few friends that there are certain brands that seem to work better for boys versus girls.  I kind of figured we'd try a few and just see what works best for our girl.

  • It used to be that there were different diapers for different sexes. I remember my mom not being able to get diapers before my youngest sibling was born because she didn't know the sex yet. That was about 20 years ago though. I haven't seen much differentiation lately until they get older- when DD was in pullups the boy and girl ones were definitely decorated differently.

  • like PP said, they are all the same for boys and girls.

  • When I worked retail I used to work in the baby section and I can tell you that until the pull-up stage ALL diapers are neutral.  So yes you are correct.

As for g-diapers there are gender neutral colors but they also have girly and boy colors available if you want to go that route.

  • I remember back when they had different disposables by sex, but I think now they're pretty much gender neutral.
