Please help me. HCG levels

Hi there. I'm hoping someone can give me some insight or reassurance about my hcg levels. Please let me tell you a bit about what is going on with me. According to my lmp my due date is Nov 21. Putting me at 7w 2d. Last Sunday I started spotting and went to hospital, they tested my hcg levels and they were at 25,000. They put me on pelvic rest. Tuesday I had gush of blood and returned to the hospital. They tested my levels again and they were up to 27,000. Does this right??

They aren't telling me much of anything. I saw my doctor today and he wont order an ultrasound until my levels reach 50,000. I'm really nervous and feeling uneasy about all this.

Any help or advice would be so greatly appreciated. I have been searching everywhere for some answers and am not having much luck.

I'm sorry, but I don't really have much advice. The important thing is that betas are doubling at least every 48 hours. Once you get past a certain point, they do start to plateau and will not increase as quickly.

What was the reasoning behind waiting until betas reach 50,000? When are they drawing blood again?

When your HCG is that high you can't expect it to double like in the early stages of pregnancy. After about 6000 the doubling time is greater than 96 hours.

Just try to relax, you can't tell anything from the numbers at this point. I am a little disappointed that your doctor won't give you an ultrasound.

He told me he wouldn't be able to see anything until my levels reach 50,000. Which seems a bit odd to me. Because I hear of women all the time getting u/s much earlier than 7 weeks and seeing something.

They are drawing blood again Saturday Morning.

Do you love your Dr.? If not, I would consider finding a new one. My Dr. told me that as soon as betas reach 2000 they can see the baby on u/s. I went in when I was 5 weeks and saw that LO was in the right place.

I didn't know that would level out when they got that high. Wondering if something is up? When I was in the hospital the first time, the doctor there said that they seemed high. ( I actually over heard him saying this in the hall ) He said according to my lmp the numbers seemed to high and that it was impossible??? I'm so confused.

This is the same doctor that delivered my youngest daughter in 07. I was so very happy with him and wanted to use him again. I certainly thought he would handle things differently knowing what I have been going through. I live in a very small town and he is right here close.

I wonder what is causing him to say these things. Surely he knows he something can be seen sooner. So mind boggling to me..

I agree. I told my doctor at 6w 4 days that I was bleeding and that I was very nervous and she got me an ultrasound within 5 minutes (where we saw a baby and a HB). It may be a long 9 months if he isn't receptive to your needs.

Time to search for a new doc, that is just wrong. Most docs can see something on a u/s with a beta of 1000 or more. When I had my m/c my beta was about 5k and you could see the fetus for sure.

So saddened right now. I guess I will be discussing this my dh. But I know for a fact he is going to want to stick with him since we used him before. He is very fond of him. And I really am too.

But as of now I'm really doubting him....

This exactly. Remember, you're your own advocate. If you don't like something that is going on, speak up. No one is a mind reader and they can't try to fix anything unless you say something. If they don't meet your expectation or needs, it is your right to find someone else, regardless of your history.

You all are right. I feel like I have been treated unfairly almost. I thought he was so much better than that.

This is going to sound like a really dumb question. but can you all help me determine how many days past ovulation I am. So that I can check out the betabase.com and understand it a bit clearer.

I keep track of everything through an app on my phone. My lmp was Feb 15. It says that I ovulated on Feb 29th. So that would put me like 35 days past ovulation?

If so the chart doesn't go that high. Am I doing that right?

Did you chart or take ovulation tests or anything that could help us?

Were your cycles regular before getting pg? If so, figure out the number of days of your "normal" cycle, take the mid point (ex. 28 day cycle, day 14 would be ovulation day if everyone had a "normal" cycle.) The following day would be 1DPO, the next 2DPO, etc...

Just because their chart doesn't go that high, doesn't mean you're doing it wrong. You can enter your own betas in there to see what the doubling time was.

I would start looking for a new doctor. I have always heard that when the beta is greater than 1,000 something can be seen on the ultrasound. I had my first u/s at 5 weeks 6 days and was able to see the sacs and heartbeats.

I might be wrong but I think some women never get up to 50k! At 5w5d and 6w my doubling time was 120 hours. I had an u/s at 6w4d and saw the heartbeat. My levels were 12k at 6w.

I also agree that 50,000 is a high number before you can get an u/s... My doctor does it at 5,000 and I just reached 27,000 so my doctor said I can have one Monday. Maybe you can ask your doctor for another blood work and see what that number is. If that number has not gone up that much, maybe you can ask him what will he do if you never reach 50,000.

I hope you and your dh can come up with a solution about your doctor!
