Ethan hates puzzles

But I really want him to work on them for fine motor and cognitive skills.....any suggestions?

  • I'm guessing that you've tried all the different kinds - peg puzzles, ones with sound, floor puzzles, etc.  We even have a fishing puzzle that Jacob likes.  He gets the fish pieces in and out with a fishing rod.

  • What about one of those big floor puzzles? That might be a way to generate interest. Elizabeth has an Elmo one and a fire truck one and likes them both.

She was never really into the peg/wooden piece puzzles, but in just the last couple of months, she's become obsessed with the 24-piece jigsaw puzzles.

This.  We got 2 Thomas the train puzzles for DS's birthday and he LOVES them.  Everyday he takes them apart and puts them back together.  He never really cared for the little peg puzzles.  DD tries to do his puzzles too - but that usually doesn't go well...she is too little to understand the concepts and DS gets mad that she is playing with his stuff.  So both of them are getting new jigsaw puzzles from the Easter bunny!

  • Right there with you and NOTHING will get him to do them. At 38 months, he can do peg puzzles relatively easily but will half-ass them if  I have him sit and show me. At his age, he should be interested in jig saw type puzzles, but no way!
