Do you still use your diaper bag?

At my shower, my friend gave me a Coach diaper bag (I did not ask nor register for it).  It was obviously very generous and sweet of her.  I love the bag.  I use it all the time.  However, I'm starting to find that I don't like carrying around this big diaper bag anymore.  Half the time I bring it in to places, I don't even end up needing to use it or getting anything out.  I'm really tempted to ditch it and just use something smaller and less diaper bag-y.  I feel bad though since I know it wasn't cheap.

What about you?  Still using yours?  How often?  Just for long days out?  Everywhere you go?

Re: Do you still use your diaper bag?

  • Definitely still using it. But it's more toys and less burp cloths now :)

  • I still take mine everywhere. I'm the type that likes to have everything just in case. In my situations I always seem to need something. A wipe, a toy to distract, she needs a diaper change, her bottle/formula, her paci clip, etc. I just have a small wristlet that I keep my important stuff from my purse in so I can easily throw it in the diaper bag and leave the rest of my purse in the car.

  • I do, pretty much everywhere I go with Ty.  What's in it depends on how long we'll be gone.  If it's a quick trip to the grocery store it'll have very little, and my wallet, keys, etc.  For a longer trip out I'll have more in it.  I'm terrified of needing something and not having it, so I wouldn't be comfortable without it!
  • I use it, but we usually leave it in the car when we go places, unless we will be there for a long time. If I need something, I can always go out to the car to get it...but so far we haven't needed it. But I know the day I leave it home we will have a diaper emergency in the middle of the grocery store or something.

Since I have 2 kids, we're still using a diaper bag.   D is recently fully potty trained so I have a full change of clothes in there just in case.   Then a change of clothes for A.    Add in diapers and wipes for A, toys, snacks, bottles, and cups...well, I'm not ready to go back to my small sling backpack that I used to use.   But I can't wait.

  • I didn't bring it one time when we went to a store, we would be gone for about an hour, if that... Riley decided to have a poop-splosion.  All I had was a diaper and wipes....so she had to go through the rest of the store with no pants.  We were at Bass Pro, so I thought I could buy some there for her....they don't have infant pants..only onsies.

I now bring a diaper bag everywhere...sometimes I leave it in the car, but it is always with me.

  • Nope, we use a standard black backpack that we use as his diaper bag now... it is just easier for us to use a backpack then a normal diaper bag. We us our diaper bag for daycare though.

  • Yes still use it all the time.  Although its not a actual diaper bag, its a large purse I had in my closet.  Looks more stylish that a diaper bag.  Now it just has snacks, toys, change of clothes, diapers and wipes. Sometimes more if we are going to be gone for a long time.

  • I have a backpack and I am never without it. Sometimes I leave it in the car but I never leave the house without it.

I always carry my big diaper bag but leave it in the car. I have a smaller bag that I have for when I go in places. I like to have everything I need with me.

  • I got a Coach bag at my shower as well.  For the longest time, it seemed I always had it with me...I just threw my wallet or wristlet in there whenever I was going somewhere with her.  Now, however, I only use it when I go down to my grandmother's (or, as I call her, Grammy) for an afternoon.  And that's just so I can jam some toys and some munchies for Stella in there.  Any other time, I just have a small wet bag that I throw a few diapers and wipes in and a cooler bag if I need to take some bottles with me.  DH, on the other hand, proudly sports his Steelers diaper bag anytime he leaves the house with Stella.

Same here. A friend of mine wants to have a 31 Party... I might...big emphasis on might....get something to replace it there... But we'll have to see... I'm pretty stingy with my money.

  • Yes, but only once or twice a week, usually just Sundays for church and small group. MIL watches DS at our house during the day, so we don't need to take him out of the house for daycare. I usually run most errand during my lunch break or after LO goes to bed, so he rarely goes to the grocery store or anything like that.

We CD, so I wish I had a larger diaper bag with more external pockets.

I still use mine if we're going to be out for more than 2 hours.  A quick run to Target isn't worth it.  I have a Skip-Hop and when she was younger it worked fine, but now that she seems to now need more crap (toys, more food, bigger diapers, bigger spare clothes) I find it doesn't hold as much.

  • No I'm not really using my diaper bag. If I am going to be gone a long time- like to my mom's house or the zoo- I bring it and leave it in my car. But just to go to the store or Dr? No- I just bring a few diapers and leave the diapers/wipes in my car.

  • Yes, I use it, especially if we're out of the house for a little while..I bring toys, food, sippy, etc. Mine isn't huge and doesn't look like a diaper bag, so I don't mind it (it's Timi & Leslie)

  • Nope.

I have a big prada bag DH bought me in NYC for my birthday last year. I put a wetbag in it with diapers, wipes, change of clothes and other baby essentials in it.

I also have a bag that is in each car with diapers, wipes, etc. just in case.

I always take it.  I use it as my purse too since I very rarely go anywhere without LO.  I am also in the camp of better to be over prepared than under.  I actually kin of want a new one cause I am a bit bored of looking at the same bag all the time.

  • I use mine now more than ever. When she was tiny, I'd just have the essentials in a big purse. Now that I need food and toys and a sippy etc., I am finding the diaper bag to be a must.

  • We TAKE ours everywhere but usually leave it in the car. The only time we actually take it though, is on weekends. We have a small bag for DC, but its not a diaper bag. We take her bag to church, restaurants, and friend's houses but never into a store/mall/etc. Like you said, its a PITA to deal with. The only reason we would need the bag when we are out and about and moving around is if she poops and if that happens, we change her in the car anyway because its easier.

  • I mainly use a small sling Eddie Bauer back pack nowadays. I keep a few diapers, a changing pad, package of wipes, diaper cream, a spare outfit for DD, a small toy, my wallet, and cell in there. I BF so I don't have to worry about carrying around bottles.

I used to use my large diaper bag more when I was using a travel system stroller, but I have a City Mini now and my large diaper bag cannot fit in the storage area it has. I feel like I don't need to carry around as much stuff as when DD was a newborn, though.

  • I rarely use mine.  It's a pretty roomy, messenger style.  Actually I use the diaper changing pad that came with it all the time, but the actual bag rarely.  I have a big leather purse that I throw my little purse into on one side, and the changing pad, diaper, toys etc on the other.  It's usually overflowing and heavy though- so I'm thinking of taking my purse out and just taking my wallet, chapstick, and gum with me- since that's all I use anyway.

I do fill the diaper bag with toys when I'm dropping Maya off at her sitter's house.  And although we haven't gone for any long outings lately, if we were going to be away from home the whole day I'd probably use the diaper bag.

  • oh yes. We CD and I need several dipes (we go out for long periods of time) cloth wipes, solution, change of clothes, puffs, packet of baby food, bib, wet bag etc. We def need a diaper bag. I don't bring it in many places though. Unless it's a restaurant where I will need the puffs, toy, bib, suction bowl etc. I usually just toss a dipe in the bottom of the stroller or change her in the car before going in if we won't be there for  long.

I did ditch my bulky Coach for the Vera Bag by Vera Bradley. It fits a TON but is not huge and bulky. It fits in the bottom of the stroller if I want it to.

  • not really.... I have it packed and it remains in my car just in case. I now take a petunia picklebottom diaper clutch that just holds an emergency diaper / wipes / nappy sacks and tissues that fits into my existing handbag

I left my diaper bag in the car one time when I went into Target. Hannah decided to have the biggest explosive mud butt ever. I had to leave my cart, go to the car and get the bag, change her, then do my shopping all over again.

The diaper bag stays with me at all times.
