STAYING asleep on your side?

Does anyone who is normally a stomach or back sleeper have any tips for how to stay asleep on your side through the night? I bought a U-shaped body pillow a few weeks ago to train myself before second tri comes and I get a lot bigger. Somehow when I wake up in the middle of the night I am on my back in the middle of the U!

Bonus points for pictures and links to your pillows! I don't want to sleep on the couch for six months!

  • I have a Snoogle and I still almost always wake up on my back. I wake up as soon as I turn though so I always correct myself. It's annoying. I no longer can tummy sleep which makes me happy....

  • Oh I was really hoping the body pillow would help.  I am getting one tomorrow after work.  After reading the PPs, I am feeling discouraged : (

  • I'm the same way! Every night I got to sleep on my side. I wake up flat on my back saying, "how long have I been like this?!"

I don't have a body pillow yet. Perhaps I need one.

  • I am a total tummy sleeper! I am at the point where I can still sleep on my stomach but I know what won't be the case forever. I asked my dr. about this because I had read/heard that sleeping on your back cuts down on the blood flow to the baby. My OB, who is the only dr. I've been faithful to for over 20 years, told me that if sleeping on my back is the only way I get rest, then so be it. He gave me a few suggestions on body pillows though so I am going to give those a try later on. I find myself waking up more often on my back which is weird and I just roll to my side and fall back asleep. It's a neverending cycle but I need my rest so I am going to do what I can with what I have! Good luck Mommas!

  • I was having this problem too!  So I bought the "Today's Mom Cozy Cuddler Pillow."  It is AMAZING! I was waking up in the middle of the U on my back as well, so I did a little restuff of the pillow in the center on both sides.  This way I can tuck it up under my back and it is firm enough to keep me where I want to be.  Took about 5 minutes to open, stuff and re-zip.  I'm telling, this thing is WONDERFUL!  I named mine brownie hahaha.

  • Due to some bleeding I have to sleep on my back now with my feet elevated. I NEVER thought I would be able to fall asleep (I sleep on my tummy) but I did! I think the legs up helped it feel different and more comfy - try elevating your feet for a trick to psych out your body

  • I have a body pillow but its not working so well. I was tummy sleeper but now its hard to because it makes me have to pee so bad. Ive been ok sleeping on my sides until the past couple of days because my hips have hurt so bad. The only relief I have found it putting a pillow under my lower back and sleeping on my back :/
