Gaining Too Much Weight

I had my 28w check up today and my doc was concerned with my weight gain in the past month-10 pounds (50 pounds total). I eat normal food with the occasional treat but I don't feel like I overdo it all the time. I told her with my 1st pregnancy I gained a lot of weight (70 pounds total and was heavier than I am now) but both the baby and myself were healthy. I am a Type I diabetic (juvenile diabetes, insulin dependent) but I'm just the type of person who gains weight, even not pregnant. I am totally healthy, no complications for me or the baby-I've had all kinds of heart tests, blood tests, urine tests, etc. Everything is fine. Before getting pregnant I had just lost 60 pounds by not eating more than 1000-1200 cal a day and running everyday. I definitely eat more calories now and I had some bleeding during week 8 and stopped running b/c it freaked me out. I have a desk job and to be honest haven't really been exercising b/c its been winter. Now that the weather is nicer, I am going to start walking outside.I feel fine and look normal (just very pregnant) but I know I should be concerned but I'm not.

Has anyone else gained a lot of weight?

  • My doctors scale and my scale are not even close. My doctors scale says I am 30 lbs heavier and my scale says 25. Either way, the doctor has not said anything to me about it,but I feel horrible about it. I had lost 30 lbs prior to getting pregnant, and since now I gained it all back and still have 12 weeks to go I feel like crap. I don't feel like i over do it either. I only started getting bad craving the last 3 weeks or so. I just hope that I can keep it under control until June!

  • I didn't gain anyting in my first tri, then between month 5 and 6 gained 10 and then month 6 to 7 gained 11. I have only gained 1 lb in the past two weeks (I am now 30 weeks), so I think that I have leveled off for the most part (although did indulge in pizza today for lunch).

I didn fail my GD test, but came back borderline, so we shall see.

As long as you feel good and are managing your diabetes, I wouldn't worry about it too much, but see how things go when you start going every two weeks.

  • I've also gained quite a bit of weight so far. And before getting pregnant I was on weight watchers and kickboxing 4 times a week just to maintain my weight. So as soon as I quit weight watchers (they make you when you get pregnant) and stopped kickboxing, the weight just piled on. My doctor still hasn't mentioned anything to me though. I think I'm just going to be one of those people that gain a bunch when pregnant (and hopefully lose it after giving birth).

    So you are not alone.

  • I try not to weight myself.  I'm fine until I see the number.  I think I'm at about 25 pounds.  I saw a reflection of myself walking outside today, and it was horrifying.  And I'm NOT one to really care about my weight.  I'm just going to stick my head in the sand until the baby is born, and then work to take it off.  My doctor hasn't said anything either, so I think I'm ok.  I do eat WAY too much junk food, though.  As I finish off my donut.  And stare at my chocolate jar next to my Red Vines jar.  Next to my jelly beans jar.  On top of my Twinkie drawer.
  • My dr said I gained 9 pounds last month and told me I'm the fattest, awfullest pregnant woman ever. (Okay, so she only cautioned me to watch out and slow down, but I still felt awful.) Considering I have only gained between 25 and 30 pounds so far I thought I was doing okay, but after that I have been guilt-tripping myself with everything I eat. My mom thinks part of the weight is extra fluid from the extreme swelling in my feet. I hope she is right. My feet are so painful that I really can't walk/exercise any more than I already do at work. I'm drinking water like it's the new black. I guess we all just have to hang in there for a few more months and then figure out how to do a postpartum exercise group. (There must be one on here somewhere.)
