Re: Are you cooking an Easter meal?

  • Heck no.  Honestly, we've gone out for Easter for years now.  If I were to cook I suppose I would do a ham or if I was feeling more ambitious I would do lamb.

  • Yes, I am! I love to cook. I will be making a roasted pork shoulder, rice and peas, fried chicken and possibly a pasta dish also.

For dessert I am making white chocolate cupcakes.

I took Monday off from work because just thinking about cooking all this makes me exhausted, let alone actually executing it...

  • Ham in the crockpot, green bean casserole and scalloped potatoes

  • Nope! We found a very good Easter brunch several years ago and we have been going ever since. Quick and easy!
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • We love entertaining, and even more now that we have kids.

My inlaws are coming over Saturday for a BBQ of Ribeye's. My husband is cooking this dinner so I have no idea what is going with it.

On Sunday I'm cooking ham and spaetzle (homemade). And I haven't planned the rest the dessert yet or picked a vegetable.

  • I don't like ham all that much.  I often make beef or pork tenderloin.  I was thinking of fish this time.  I have shrimp scampi as the plan unless I find a good fish option.

How odd is scampi on Easter?

  • We always host Easter. We make a ham, dinner rolls and deviled eggs as an appetizer. We have everyone else bring a side or dessert. I actually don't like ham much, but everyone else does. One year we grilled salmon and had leg of lamb, which were good.

  • Thankfully, no! We are headed to DH's family and all I have to bring is a fruit salsa...nice and easy!

I love to cook, but I hate hosting big gatherings at my house. I prefer to head to other's places for that.

  • Our place is to tiny to host anything, so DH's family is taking us all out for brunch.  I am so excited.  Since the girls are still so little brunch will allow us to pass the baby when it's our turn to eat.  The girls would not sit through an entire sit down meal without one of them screaming at us for attention, so this seems to be a perfect solution.

  • Nope... We're going to the IL's for dinner. I'll be contributing deviled eggs and lemon cupcakes with a coconut/jelly bean "nest".

My MIL will probably make her usual: ham, potato salad, and baked beans. She usually also has some nibbly things for snacking, like chips/salsa, chips/onion dip, veggie tray, cheese ball... It is pretty simple, but it is also usually pretty good.

  • I love to host brunch on Easter, but haven't since we moved back home because the house is too small. I have dibs on next year!

This year Easter Sunday falls on Sean's birthday, so we are going out with his family. I dislike going out on holidays, so we shall see. My parents are having us over for a birthday dinner cookout & cake on Saturday.

  • Yes!  It's just going to be my parents.  I'm making a ham, some rolls, probably this awesome asparagus and spinach baked risotto (so easy), and maybe some baked beans.  My mom is bringing potato salad, deviled eggs, and a lamb cake.

My in-laws are going to Vegas to visit my BIL/SIL for Easter, so we'll have a big Easter celebration with them next weekend.  It actually makes it so much easier -- we don't have to split time between families!

  • I will happily be eating whatever my inlaws serve.   They are excellent chefs, so I plan to eat well.    One of the perks of traveling!

  • My parents came up to visit this past weekend, and I made our traditional Easter dinner while they were here. I made ham, dinner rolls, macaroni salad, pickled beets, kielbasa, and oven roasted potatoes.
