All these posts of what peoples LO's are doing has me worried. I just threw the "what to expect the first year" book in the trash because it was making me worried. Charlie will be 10 weeks old tomorrow. He enjoys tummy time and lifts his head to turn it side to side, but he doesn't lift it to 45 or 90 degrees like this book is saying he should. He has great head control when sitting up or being held and he can sit in the Bumbo for about 5-7 minutes holding his head up the whole time. Also, he still makes limited eye contact. He looks around the room, but rarely focuses in on faces. He tracks toys and looks at himself in the mirror. He swats toys in his play gym -probably unintentionally- but he isn't grasping toys and trying to put them in his mouth or anything. He is cooing and some days he makes great eye contact, smiles all day long etc.
Anybody else have a LO who doesn't seem to be meeting milestones on time? I called my pediatrician and she said as long as he makes consistent eye contact and smiles reciprocally by 6 months she isn't worried... that's a long time to wait to see if he is behind in some way.

Re: 10 week old not hitting milestones
The reason your doctor isn't concerned is totally valid. I think that those 'guidelines' that give week by week what a baby should be doing are hard on mama's. Really look at him for him, what is he doing that he wasn't doing? I wouldn't worry so much about how fast he is hitting milestones and just focusing on his achievements no matter how small... instead of thinking "he doesn't do this..." change that thought to what he is doing and enjoy it!
I want to add that babies are so unique, My daughter wasn't a 'smiler' I always worried because she didn't giggle or smile and it seemed impossible to do anything to invoke it... She is 2.5 and is a huge joker now, and I make her laugh constantly so no problems there but she is a serious little girl and she takes time to think about things. I just got better at knowing what makes her laugh.
