Stay at Home Moms

I've said it before...

But after today it bears repeating. Grandparents are completely insane. Even the most seemingly normal parents turn into completely crazy people when they become grandparents. That is all.

    Ha. Yes. True. What happened?

Oh, nothing much. My Mom just referred to herself as Mommy while talking to DS today. 4 times. Granted, she corrected herself, but still, this is not the first time she's done that.

She also "accidentally" kicked his stroller while he was sleeping, because she wanted to see him while he was awake.

She constantly makes little remarks about how DH and I are silly for trying to keep LO on a schedule (meanwhile he has been STTN since 10 weeks old). And she keeps saying he's going to stop STTN and want a piece of fruit soon. A piece of fruit? I'm supposed to give him an apple when he wakes up crying?

She acts like she never gets to see DS, but then declines our offers to have them over or to trek the 30 minutes to their house every weekend.

Oh, and the kicker is that she keeps saying all the things that she'll let DS do when he gets to stay at her house. Things that she knows DH and I do not want him to have.

    *sigh*

Let me say, I am grateful that DS has grandparents that care about him and love him so much. I just wish they would calm down and stop treating DH and I as children and recognize that we are parents.

Am I married to your brother? Because you pretty much just described my MIL. I don't have advice but you aren't alone. I'm sorry she is so crazy.

  • Fortunately, my mom got all her "crazy" out with my sister's kids. She'd calmed down a lot by the time I got around to having mine.

My relationship with my MIL was just fine until I had a baby. Enough said.

  • I hear ya. DD is only 2 weeks old but she is the first grandchild for my IL's and my MIL desperately wanted a girl when they were having children. They are already acting a bit psycho. But I thought they were odd to begin with.

Thankfully my parents haven't started in yet. This is their 7th grandchild so that is helping.

  • This is so incredibly true of both my parents and my inlaws. It's frightening.
