Hi Ladies- I have been dealing with depression for 12 years since college. I have seen several psychiatrists and tried numerous medicines throughout this time. Most recently I was on Cymbalta long term, it was working for me, until we started TTC. I was able to find a psychiatrist who specializes in women's mood disorders and has much experience working with pregnant women. She helped me transition off Cymbalta and onto an older more well studied drug called Pamelor. I have been taking 100 mg daily since last summer, and am currently 7 months pregnant. I've been doing pretty well on the pamelor, and have been happy with how i've been able to manage my depression and anxiety through this pregnancy. I'm telling this story because I really thinkit is worth while to search for a specialist in your area that deals with maternal mood disorders. It was well worth the search for me. I don't plan to stay on pamelor forever, as I think I need more meds to help me regulate my symptoms long term. You all who are interested in breastfeeding should check out this website my psych gave me called LactMed.https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/htmlgen?LACT (hopefully that link works) You can also download an iPhone app to you can search meds at any time. You can insert any medicine, OTC or prescription, and it will give you all the info and research that has been compiled about the safety of your medicine while breastfeeding. It is really a great resource. Another great resource from my doc is https://www.womensmentalhealth.org/They have a extensive website with lots of info about depression and pregnancy. hope this is helpful to you all too! They have been useful for me. good luck!
Thanks for sharing. I too, see a doc who specializes in reproductive psychiatry. Before my last pregnancy, I had no idea that people specialized in such things & some psychiatrists are hesitant to medicate pregnant patients. I think it is so important to get the word out there that there are doctors who are knowledgeable about managing depression & anxiety throughout pregnancy. Thanks again.
