So, back story, my BFF has twin 2 1/2 year old girls. She is EXTREMELY high strung about everything, not just the girls. So my mom went to the park with her to help her with them yesterday. One of them was playing with a caterpillar. BFF was a little antsy about it because she's a germaphobe, but got over it. Soooo, she posted a super cute picture on FB with her DD with a caterpillar crawling on her arm. Ya know, a feel good "look at Katie's new friend" pic.
One of her FB friends had the following response:
"be careful letting her play with caterpillars, Dr.'s warn against children playing with them getting their small hairs in ther eyes. Apparently it can destroy vision if not caught very quickly. Hte to be a worry wort but......."
Why would you say that to someone who worries about everything in the first place? Just say "wow, your kid's cute" and move on. Also, keep in mind my BFFs husband is AN EYE DOCTOR. So, 1) has anyone EVER heard that caterpillars cause blindness and 2) is it just me or are people FN ridiculous? Why on earth did you feel the need to tell her that? How many people do you all know who have ever been blinded by a caterpillar?
Ok, I'm done....Stupid b!tch. No, really, I'm done.

That chick is dumb. It reminds me of one of the outtakes at the end of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby when Will Ferrel is doing the pretend outtakes for commercials he was making and he goes, "I'd like to talk to you about a serious problem: snow blindness in cats." It's totally unrelated to ANYTHING.
ETA: I'm sure the kid wasn't cramming them in his occular cavity. sheesh.

First of all, I'm a Bug freak, I love insects... Second of all, that's and INTERNET rumor! Most caterpillars are extremely safe to handle, and there are only a handful that can harm you. most of the dangerous ones have spikes or spines and can cause a reaction like itching and sorta like a bee sting reaction.
here is a good link.

I used to breed butterflies here in FL at a place called Butterfly world www.butterflyworld.com check it out. and 95% of our caterpillars that we raised were NOT harmful, and the other 5% came from other countries like Costa Rica and Madagascar. This one Caterpillar we had was an IO Moth... which we have in the US but we had a special one from Costa Rica and it was huge, and it was covered in barbs. It stung the crap out of my hand when I brushed up against it and man ohh man! My hand swelled up huge and it was a crazy burning pain, but the rash was gone a few days later. Not a huge deal!
I would of so called her out on it on FB!! It's shameful that people are so scared of their environment. She should me more concerned about the GERMS all over the playground Equipment rather than a "Baby" Butterfly!

Exactly. My very, very tempered response was:
"OMG, don't say that to Ms High Strung. Anna, they're just common caterpillars. They're not some poinsonous African variety. Don't freak out. Crisis averted?"
I REALLY held back so as not to cause drama on my friend's FB page.
Love me some Will Ferrel.
Unsolicited advice is annoying! It'd be one thing if your friend's child had the caterpillar crawling on their eyelids, but even then...
Run and tell dat!

LMAO!!! I love Antoine!! so funny "So you can run and tell dat! Home Boy! "
And sadly yes, I know every word as well, but I still crack up every time!
Haha... DH and I still talk about this all the time. While I feel sorry for Antoine's sister, his account will still be funny when we're 80.
After our house was burglarized, and we'd gotten our stuff back and calmed down, DH did a hilarious off-the-cuff parody. I've been laughing all day thinking about it, so when I saw this thread, I laughed extra hard. It started with, "Weeeell, obviously, there's a sh!tbag in Old Brooklyn. He's kicking in your back door, he's snatchin' your iPads up..."
The police report said something like, "When we searched the house, we found nobody but 2 cats and a puppy," so DH's parody ended with, "Hide your cats, hide your puppies, hide your hamsters, 'cuz they stealin' everything out here."
HAHA!! thats hilarious!! Glad you guys are seeing the humor in all this mess!
