Pregnant after 35

A little annoyed at doctors' offices

I called yesterday around 11am to 2 of the three places in my town that provide OB/midwife services.  I understand that we don't have many options, but both seemed like good places.  Both places said the midwife there would call me this morning.

So now it's been over 27 hours and I haven't received a call from either midwife.  I know this isn't an emergency, but it's annoying that neither place bothered to call me back.  Add to the fact that when I went in to first meet one of the midwives, I scheduled an appt for 10:15 and didn't get back until 10:45 to a room and didn't see her until almost 11.  Why can doctor's offices get away with being unprofessional?  I can't do that in my own job.

Re: A little annoyed at doctors' offices

  • That is really annoying - my OB is pretty good about that but my dermatologist is TERRIBLE!  And the worst part is that I hardly ever get an apology for making me wait 45 minutes, an hour, whatever it is.  I would go to someone else, but she's really good.  Thus, the long wait I suppose.

  • I rarely get seen on time at my OBs, but it doesn't bother me. I'm one of several pregnant women...and sometimes babies have to be born. I know if I'm the one in labor or having complications, I want DrB to spend as much time with me as possible, and not rush off to someone else. So, when she's dedicating time to another patient who might be a higher priority or got there first, I see that as a positive sigh. My first appt was super late due to spontaneous twin birth. The excitement on DrB's face at the successful delivery sold me on her as an OB. But...I'm a military brat, and this whole seeing the same doctor more than once thing is new to me, lol. And, lord knows you WAIT HOURS sometimes at a military hospital!
  • My OB's office seems to run pretty much on time most days. I went to this same office before I was pregnant and I remember once being left in the room for more than 45 minutes while I could hear a bunch of the employees (including my doctor at the time) GIGGLING incessantly in a nearby break room. I thought I was going to lose it and go out there but I stayed calm and it was fine. As long as I have a book or my Kindle to read, I can be amazingly patient ;) That time, of course, I had nothing to do but sit in that tiny room waiting for the doctor and 45 minutes felt like about 3 hours!

  • Ah, bring my kindle...that is such a good idea, why didn't I think of that.  I get so bored with waiting and reading people magazine.

I might mention the waiting for a call back for over 24-hrs if it happens again, but I think I'll let it slip this time.
