Weird hand shaking

So my son has just started holding his arms straight out and shaking his hands and wrists whenever he gets happy or excited.  When I get him up from a nap or when he sees his bottle.  My mother-in-law says my husband used to do the same thing when he was a baby, but to me it seems a little "spastic" and kind of makes me nervous.

As an adult my husband still has nervous ticks, so maybe that is hereditary.  My son literally is a mini DH so maybe that's all it is.  Just wondering if anyone else's LO does something like this?

Re: Weird hand shaking

  • Yup My DS does it as well for the same things yours does! I think it's just their way of showing excitement.

  • I'm pretty sure it's normal. DS sticks his hands straight out, clasps and unclasps his hands like a maniac, and does a full body shake with his mouth wide open. It's the funniest thing ever.

  • I make fun of Isaac -- he does the same thing. He looks like a dancing Persian (my sister's in laws all dance like that with the wrist movements).

  • My DS does this when he is excited...I was nervous about it until I realized it was when he saw me  ( which melts my heart), or saw a bottle :)

Hahaha! We call it "Spirit fingers" or the "Baby Jig" because he kicks his feet frantically too.
