Vaccine-savvy people

Did anyone delay Hep B? Do you know how that affects the schedule for administering the shot series in an older child?

We started the series in December, getting 1 shot then and the second shot in January just before we came to France. We still have a 3rd shot to go. Ordinarily, it appears to be given 3 months after the 2nd shot, but I don't know if this is for convenience or for the vaccine's effectiveness.

My pedi's office in the U.S. is always closed when I think of asking this, so I figured I'd post here while it was on my mind. At the very least, I'll see this post again later and remember to call the pedi in NY.

  • It is for effectiveness of the shot. you have some wiggle room on the timeing (t dosent have to be 2 mos to the day but within a week to a weekand a half (give or take some time). If you wait to long you will have to restart the shot series.

  • try to find your vaccines insert online. It should tell you the timing.

    According to whom?

Below is the link to the CDC's vaccine catch-up schedule with minimum intervals between doses for persons between 4m and 6yr. At the top it says a vaccine series does not have to be restarted regardless of the time elapsed between doses.

This sounds correct. I was told by a pediatrician that you can wait for over a year if you want and still have protection. I second PP with looking at the insert; whatever the insert tells you has to be accurate.

  • Thanks. I will still call the pedi, but I'd much rather have wiggle room since we still don't have a pedi here I am comfortable with. I can't imagine DD would much like getting a shot from a doctor she's never met before.
