Re: tell me about Sophie

  • Thanks, Moosey. I'm sure there's sonething amazing about it, but J tends to get ticked off when he can't fit something entirely in his mouth. And holy formatting issues! That's what i get for not turning javascript off on my phone.

  • We have the big one, the mini one, and the bath time sophie. I do not see what the big deal is either. Bo does not even like it. I have no idea what I was thinking, but I put the big sophie (we call Lou) in the dishwasher and well...Lou does not squeek anymore :( Whoops.

I admit. I bought them while I was pregnant after seeing them on the Kardashians...If Masson Disick has it, then Bo has to?????

  • We do not have it but mostly because it's made out of latex, which I'm allergic to. My daughter makes her own chew toys anyway-- her favorite are the border pieces to the foam floor mat.

  • We have 2 squeak less sophies( thanks to the dishwasher) and j loves them! He likes the legs- and now that he doesn't squeak anymore it's even better for mommy

  • We got two Sophies at my shower, otherwise I wouldn't have got one. We're saving the second one for baby #2. Some people say their babies are obsessed with it and have meltdowns when Sophie goes missing. Cara likes to chew on it and I imagine it feels nice on her gums but she's not into it anymore than any of her other toys.

  • Augie loves Sophie.  But it was especially handy when he was like 3-4 months.  It was light and small for him to hold in his early teething stage.  His other teethers were heavy and bulky and hard to hold.  Sophie was easy for him.  I wouldn't buy it at this stage of the game.  He'll chew on her if I offer it, but he prefers other toys now.

Just a PSA....there were lots of articles about those foam mats circulating about a year ago and how they have chemicals in them that aren't safe for kids.  We still have one in our house, but I won't be letting dd chew on them (I put them away for a while when ds was in a chewing phase).

We have Sophie, and dd likes to squeak her, but not really chew on her.

OH I know, I try to stop her. I did my research a little too late on that purchase. I don't shove it in her mouth but she has an incredible knack for getting the borders off. I just wish I could find something else that she likes to chew on as much as that damn mat.

This is Tatum, too.  I haven't seen our Sophie in a while, and I'm not entirely sure where she is.  I registered for it, and got it as a shower gift, because every baby I know has one and adores it.  Tatum seems to enjoy it when I give it to her, but she really doesn't have any toys that she's particularly attached to.  Whatever I hand her usually goes straight into her mouth, and then on the floor - Sophie included.

  • I didn't bother with Sophie with DD1 and kind of wish I had. We tried almost every other teether out there and she hated them all. She preferred to chew up her board books, so half of them are destroyed.

We did get Sophie for DD2 after she also refused every teether we tried. She loves Sophie. It's lighter and easy for her to manipulate, the nose and legs are the perfect size and shape for her to gnaw on, and she thinks it is hilarious when Sophie squeaks. I know we would have survived just fine without it, but Sophie has been a favorite so far.

  • We have a Sophie. I am not sure it is worth the cost, but my mother-in-law heard it was the "it" thing and that they sell out, so when she saw it, she got it. DD used to love it and she still likes it, but maybe not as much. My dog is also very interested in Sophie, but I think he finally understands it is not a toy for him...but I still watch it carefully.

Dont worry, you aren't the only one that didn't board the sophie train.  D is teething just fine without it.
    We don't have one either.

Us either.  J wants a wet washcloth, or our fingers.

  • We have Sophie, but only b/c I got it for $2 at a consignment sale.  DD loves it, but I wouldn't pay $25 for it.

The dog also loves it, so we have to be very careful.  Its the only one of DD's toys she goes after.  So there must be something special about it :)

  • Did not have one for DD1 and we survived fine.

I got it for DS for like $15 on Amazon.  He really liked it. It wasn't magical or a must have as some swear, but I felt it was a good purchase especially at the discounted price.

DD2 LOVES her hand-me down sophie.  It is her favorite toy. I now see what some others were raving about and why it is so popular.  DD2 only teethes on my chin or sophie as no other teether holds interest or has her chewing long, so sophie has really upped her value recently.

  • We have one.  LO loves chewing on her and giggles when he does squeak her.  I did a little reading and it is made out of rubber from some tree sap so it's not the traditional rubber or latex of most toys.  It's not has favorite thing to chew on.  He had a stuffed monkey that goes everywhere with him and would rather chew on the monkey's tail.

It's basically a dog toy for babies.  I surveyed a lot of my mom friends and 90% said their kids loved it.  I found it on Amazon for about $17 which made me feel better than that $26 BRU has it for.

  • Thanks for the clarification. J is a big fan of fingers, stuffed animals, and wet washcloths so I guess I can just skip this one.

  • K loves to chew on her legs--will do it for hours.  Okay, not hours.  But 15min in mommy/baby time can seem like hours :)

She doesn't get upset if she can't have her or anything though--but she's not that attached to anything besides me and my bewbs.

  • Baby girl was always fine with Sophie, but she didn't REALLY get into her until about a month ago. Her current favorite activity with Sophie, other than shoving her legs in her mouth, is to grab her and violently bash her up and down while Sophie squeaks in protest. Sophie's a great toy, but I wouldn't pay $25 out of pocket for her. I think the main reason that she's so popular is because she's French, sophisticated-looking, and trendy, so the parents (and friends of parents) love buying her. A good registry item, but not something to buy yourself.

Haha, I might intentionally run Sophie through the dishwasher now so my dogs can stop freaking  out every time E picks her up!!
