Has anyone here had their water break early XP from September 2012

Hey Ladies!

I'm in the midst of an IUD pregnancy and the MFM recently brought up the possibility that my water might break early since the sac is consistantly rubbing against the top of the copper T. I was hoping some of you ladies might have been through this (water breaking before you are full term) or know someone who has and could tell me a little more about what really happens. The MFM said if it happened they would hospitalize and there were procedures that can be done to maintain the pregnancy as long as there are no signs of infection but she didn't really give any details. I hope it never happens but would rather be prepared/educated then scared out of my mind if it does.

Thanks in Advance!

Re: Has anyone here had their water break early XP from September 2012

  • My water broke early (33w 3d) and nothing could be done to stop my contractions (plus I had pre-e) so they had plans to break my water the following day, so they let me progress to full labor.

Praying that you can go full term.

  • I was admitted into the hospital at 24wk0d because I was 1 cm dialated and 50% effaced. I was on all sorts of meds for contractions and to prevent labor. I stayed in the hospital on strict bedrest the remainder of the time. My water broke at 27wk1d and was told they would try to keep the babies in as long as possible. I only made it 4 more days until the babies were born. However, I have heard incredible stories from other NICU moms I met that said they kept the babies in for weeks or even a month after their water broke. You never know!

     Best of luck to you!

  • My water also broke at 33w3d... my labor progressed very quickly and DD was born 4 and a half hours after my water broke... she was breech so it was a C section...  but I went from 1-2cm dilated at 7am to fully dilated at 9:30am...  there was no stopping DD!  So far, 10 days later, DD is doing great in the NICU and will hopefully be home within a week.

  • There a lots of PROM moms on here.  I think the statistics are usually that you deliver within a week of rupture even with interventions in the hospital.  They can give you antibiotics, meds to hold off contractions, and get in steriod shots to help baby's lungs mature.  However, there are at least a few ladies on here who held on for a few weeks with PPROM.

Unrelated, I was a Sept 2011 mom. It's crazy to already see Sept 2012 on here!  Best wishes to you and I hope you don't have to be over here any time soon at least.

  • Thanks Ladies! It's nice to know that there is no real timeline and my MFM wasn't just being vague haha. I hope we don't have to deal with this situation but also nice to get to know some of you just in case I'm here 6 weeks from now. Till then I'm just gonna keep up the vitamins and rest and hope for the best. I literally had to push and break my water with DS so here's to hoping I have some naturally tough membranes down there :)

  • My water broke at 22 w 5 d - they tried everything to stop my labor but even if they would have been able to stop the contractions I lost way too much fluid for baby to have been able to stay inside - I delivered 7 hours later via c-section (vertical/classical incision) -

  • My water broke at 32 weeks 2 days, but I was not in active labor at that time and had enough fluid left that DD could stay inside. The plan was to give me procardia (pill to relax my uterus), steroid shots, and keep me on bedrest until 34 weeks at which point they would induce. Well, my DD was born 47 hours after my water broke at 32 weeks 4 days. My labor was only 4 hours long. My placenta showed that I had an infection and there is no way to know if the infection caused my water to break or I got an infection because my water broke. My OB thinks I got the infection because my water was broken because I had shown no signs of anything being wrong prior to that. Once I had the infection, my body did its job and got the baby out. Because of the steroid shots (and her gestational age), DD only spent one day on a CPAP and then had no issues with breathing. We spent 3 weeks in NICU and another 4 at an intermediate nursery. She's doing very well now! Good luck with everything! I hope you can keep that baby cooking as long as possible! :)
  • After a normal, healthy pregnancy, my water broke at 31wks.  I received both steriod shots & then as soon as the magnesium wore off, I went into full labor.  I know in some cases, they are able to hold off labor until 36wks, but I had not enough fluid left, that they were going to induce me even if it didn't start on it's own.  DS's started going into cardiac distress, so I ended up with a Condition O emergency c-section.  DS was in the NICU for 44 days.  He's home now & just celebrated his 2 month birthday.  He now weighs over 8lbs!  Big buddy has no problem with eating!
Send, me a PM if you want me to go into more detail.
    Good luck to you.

I was hospitalized when I was 22w6d when we saw that I had low fluid on a routine ultrasound.  They weren't able to document amniotic fluid on exam, but they went ahead and treated me as if my water had broken.  I was put on hospital bedrest, given IV antibiotics for 7 days and got the steroid shots, and held out for another 3.5 weeks, before I developed an infection and went into labor.  I had chorioamnioitis (verified by pathology after birth) and my little girl was born at 26w2d.  My OB thinks that my water broke at around 21 weeks (19 week ultrasound was normal) with a high-leak that slowly leaked out.  I had damp panties, nothing alarming, that I attributed to just normal increased discharge.

However, as most women have written, the overwhelming majority of women whose water breaks goes into labor within 7 days.  I hope that you can make it to term--or at least very close to it! GL!

  • My twin A's water broke at 19 weeks and I delivered due to infection at 29 weeks. I was on complete hospital bedrest for those 10 weeks, had IV and oral antibiotics to kill an infection I had at 24 weeks. Also had steroid shots for the babies' lungs as well as procardia to prevent contractions. Sounds like your dr knows what to do in the event that happens to you.

I wouldn't worry too much about membrane rupture. If your dr isn't too concerned, then just be aware that you should get to the hospital asap in the unlikely event that your water does break. Hoping you go full term with no complications!

  • My water broke at 34 w 5 d.  I was only 1 cm and wasn't in active labor.  I was hoping to hold off labor for a week or two but it wasn't worth the risk of infection.

I was induced later that night and she was born at 5 am the next day.

Good luck, I hope you make it to the end!

  • I was prom. I never had contractions though.  They discovered the prom at a routine ultrasound. I was in the hospital for 50 days. Baby A, the baby with prom was 1 pound 8 ounces at birth. She did not have the room that she needed to grow. I was also pre-e. I had them at 30 weeks.
