So much for waiting until 6 months

I had every intention of waiting to start solids. I really did. I could even wait past the six month point myself. But obviously Kaeldra has different ideas. She is totally obsessed with food. And drinks. Every cup, spoon, fork, and tiny little smidgen of food that crosses your lips she is completely fascinated with. She's been watching us very closely when we eat for a while now, started trying to grab things a few weeks ago, and today flat out threw a fit because we wouldn't let her have our lunch that she was so bent on. So here we go! Any advice that I may have missed?

Re: So much for waiting until 6 months

  • By all means, do what you feel is best. But if you haven't started yet, have you tried just giving her something else? Mine is really interested in ANYTHING we're doing, including eating/drinking/etc, but usually she's content to get ANYTHING in her hands/mouth/etc (teething ring, toys, etc), so we're still holding out because she still seems content just having a bottle (and it's still only 5-6 oz).

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

  • I've tried the distraction route, but it hasn't helped.
  • We started cereal at 4 months. She will be 5 months tomorrow and has done rice, oatmeal and barley cereal and has done carrots, sweet potatoes and as of tonight squash! She loves it... Especially the veggies! We even have her doing water out of a sippy cup! She was completely ready and the dr guided us! Start 1 new thing every 3-4 days. We did rice cereal by itself for 2 weeks in the beginning though them moved onto oatmeal then barley etc. good luck!
  • We started at 4 months because DD was very interested.  But now at almost 5 months, she's going crazy when we eat.  Tonight I gave her a piece of lettuce from my salad. She just played with it. Then she wanted my water, so I put it to her lips, and she sticks her tongue in it. Ive noticed she's more interested at night, but either way, she's loving solids.  I'd say go for it.

  • DD was the same. And she's not interested in everything we do just when we're eating/drinking. We started solids and she LOVES it but she is still obsessed with our food and wants a bottle anytime we eat.

  • We had the same intentions! We started giving her a few bites of avocado in the AM and that started last Saturday. No real advice but if your baby seems ready it shouldnt be an issue to start now.

  • Personally, I think it's great that you are following your child's lead and not a certain date. Your baby may be ready and I think it would only be helpful to encourage her. All babies aren't the same so I think that is why there is a pretty big range on when solids are introduced.

  • she got to try some banana last night. It was so cute!
