forgetting to take a prenatal

I rarely remember mine...& I was wondering what the other ladies' opinions/thoughts were on this and/or if you forget to take yours...or maybe you are super strict about it. Whatever the case, post away.

Re: forgetting to take a prenatal

  • I have forgotten before but I really try to take it every day. I always take it after I eat dinner so that helps me remember. Also my H likes to remind me so that helps.

  • I have forgotten mine a lot. I've taken about 3 months of them over this entire pregnancy. DH gives me SUCH a hard time about it. But I always forget! And I have to take them with food because I get terrible fishy burps that make me want to puke if I take them without food.

  • I'm terrible at remembering.  Dh is also terrible at reminding me.  I had an appointment this morning and found out I'm really anemic-the baby is fine, just sucking everything out of me.  So now I'm going to make it a point to remember to take them (I have the gummy ones) and my new iron pills.
  • I have forgotten them on occasion, but most days I remember to take them. I take them right before bed, so I've added it to my bedtime routine. Now, taking my iron supplements twice a day is a different story. Those I forget or take only one often. But, I'm trying to add them to my daily routine as well.
  • I forget all the time...I'm bad at taking them! I've had the same bottle now for over 3 months, and it's supposed to last 90 days. It's probably half full still. :( But everything is good, so I'm not entirely worried. YIKES!

  • I started taking them abt 4 yrs ago when we started TTC, so after all this time its a habit. I take them at bedtime. I think there were 2 instances in the 1st T where I felt so sick I went straight to bed and forgot them.

  • I started taking them a few years ago when we began ttc, so I'm pretty strict with taking them everyday. I also have to take a blood pressure pill so I think the fear of high blood pressure plays a role in my remembering everyday.

Now the iron pill I'm supposed to be taking daily (but not with my prenatal)....that's a completely different story!

  • I am extremely strict about taking mine. I only missed one and that was because I spent the night out of town - although it's NBD, it still bugs me that I missed that one.

  • I'm actually shocked that I have not forgotten to take one yet.  I just set it out with dinner every night so it's just a routine.

This!  I've done pretty well...but I've also been taking them for 4 years now, since we started TTC DD.  I ran out of them for a whole week recently and I was feeling really guilty.  But, I guess putting it in perspective, I'm doing pretty well.

  • I'm usually diligent but ever since I got prescribed an iron supplement, and more folic acid, and a stool softener (just in case with the iron supp.) I have had trouble remembering. I have to take a total of 6 pills every day :( It's hard to remember them all sometimes!

  • i've been really good about taking the prenatals- I have the yummy gummy ones and I have them next to my bed- i always read in bed before falling asleep and the vitamins are right next to my book so i remember

I am also supposed to be taking iron though and that's been more difficult-  the bottle is right next to my other vitamins, but I'm terrible at swallowing pills so I usually "forget" to take the iron- i maybe take them 3 times a week-

much easier to remember to take the delicious gummy vites

  • I havne't taken one since the beginning of 1st tri.

  • I've been good about taking mine, mainly b/c it's been easy for me. I keep the bottle next to the bathroom sink and take it right after I brush my teeth at night- so I don't forget. Also, I haven't had any issues with them making me feel sick or constipated, so I have no reason not to take them everyday.
  • I went from taking BC every night to taking a prenatal every night, and I was on BC for 10 years. So now it's pretty much just habit to take it. Though I have forgotten a few nights, but not many!

  • I started taking mine last May when we were thinking we'd start TTC at any time, so I was already in the habit when I got pregnant. I did take them in the mornings with my breakfast for months and months, but when morning sickness kicked in I wondered if they had anything to do with it, so I switched to after dinner. Turns out they had nothing to do with my morning sickness, but I just stuck with them after dinner. I've maybe missed about 6 since I started taking them almost a year ago. I'm glad I'm pretty diligent with taking my vitamin because I've started an iron supplement and don't want to miss any of those. My pharmacist said I can take them at the same time, although I might want to spread them out over a couple of meals if their irritate my stomach. I haven't had any issues so I take them together at night.

  • I average 5 out of 7 days a week. Not too shabby.
  • I am pretty good about remembering to take mine.

  • I forget to take mine all the time. I had them on the bathroom counter during the first tri, but I got tired of that huge bottle taking up so much space. Now they're in the cabinet and I guess they're out of sight out of mind. I really need to start being better about it.

  • I take mine religiously. Everynight before I got to bed and befor eI brush my teeth, that helps to avoind any bad after taste and any nausea.

I have to take my allergy medicine everynight, so I just take them together and that helps.

If you make it part of your routine that may help you ladies out!

On top of that I have to take a calcium supplement and an iron supplement which have to be taken a minimum of 2 hours apart and my iron supp has to be taken at least 4 hours apart from my prenatal!

These vitamins and supplements are for you not for baby (except for the DHA). Baby will take what he needs from you, this is to help you maintain good health during pregnancy.

  • I often forget if I have already taken it yet today or not.  When that happens, I usually opt to not mistakenly take 2.

  • I am super strict and take it every morning with orange juice.  I rarely forget it.  I'm used to taking pills every morning, though, so I think that has something to do with it.  Ever since I was little I've been taking vitamins and iron pills, so remembering my prenatal has been pretty simple. :)

  • I forget them more often than not. My doctor told not to take them during my first two trimesters because I would get so violently ill after them, but now that I'm getting closer to giving birth she recommends I at least try to keep them down. My stomach seems to be handling them alright now, but now I have to get back in the habit of taking them.

  • I was taking them first thing in the morning when I took my Synthroid because then I knew I would always remember, but they made me so sick that I couldn't take them in the morning anymore, so now I take them when I eat dinner so I remember,
  • I haven't missed many.  They don't bother me in any way so I just take them in the morning when I take my blood pressure medicine.

  • I remember maybe once a week. :P I've never been good about them, mostly because I don't have a consistent schedule.  I blame night shift.  Same reason I switched to a non-daily BC.  That said I need to start taking iron so I need to be better.  Stinking anemia.

  • I'm bad. I was told to stop taking them in 1st tri (it doesnt do any good if no matter which ones i took, I threw up every time. And i was already borderline dehydrated.) And when the m/s finally let up about 20 wks, they still make my gag. So i've taken (and kept down) maybe 10 this whole pg.

  • I am constantly forgetting mine :(
  • I am super strict about taking mine every day.  I think I forgot maybe once when I was really sick.  I just feel like it's such an easy thing to do to help ensure a healthy pregnancy & baby, it's important to me to not forget.

  • I don't take one.
  • I hardly took any my first semester because I couldn't keep the pills down. My midwife told me to take two Flintstones vitamins a day, so I did that, but forgot a few of those too.  Finally ran out, and my MIL got me yummy gummy prenatels, and I've been taking those.  It also helps that hubby and I have more of a similar schedule, and he reminds me too.

  • I very rarely remember to take mine, although I almost always remember my iron supplement.

My prenatals are a total of 4 pills per day, plus two EPA/DHA pills.  Having to take 6 enormous, smelly pills per day was killer.  I take them when I remember, but I don't stress out about it.  I figure that since humans were having babies long before prenatal vitamins existed, I should be okay and so should the baby.

The iron supplement (which is liquid -- THANK GOD!) is another story.  As soon as my midwives told me I was slightly anemic, I got serious about my iron.  It seriously helps that it's liquid, though.  It doesn't smell and it actually tastes pretty good.  It's also really helped with the fatigue that came on really suddenly at the end of my 2nd trimester.
