Can't get comfortable at night

I can't get comfortable when I nurse da at night  if I sit back he in latches and this means I'm constantly leanin forward and my back is always killing me. Does anyone have any advice, the pain on my back is making me not want to wake up at night to feed him and I love feeding him

  • I had this problem so much in the beginning - pulled something in my back during labor, and then the first month or so of crouching over A made it worse.

Try some different nursing positions, if you can. An advil here and there won't hurt either, or propping pillows behind your back when sitting up. All I can remember from that early on was that it did go away and get a lot better as time went on.

  • Are you nursing him in bed? I had huge issues with my back when I nursed LO in bed. I had to actually get up and nurse her in the chair.

This.. I got up and nurse on the couch... more comfortable... now that he is getting bigger I can nurse in bed in a diff hold that I wasn't able to do when he was small, but I do this in the morning now that he is sleeping through the night.

  • I've never been as comfortable nursing in bed as in our chair.  Even side lying I still have to sit up and burp her and then switch sides.  It's actually more disruptive than doing all that in the chair.  I have back problems too so it takes a huge mound of pillows to get somewhat comfy and then I have to push those all back off the bed.  Too much effort for middle of the night!

  • When I was nursing DD at night I sat up in bed with pillows against the head board. It was a pain though to keep arranging pillows. Now DH gives her a bottle of milk while I pump for the next night. He wanted to help feed her.I have been having lower back pain while nursing. Though I switched from Boppy to My Breast Friend and I feel better. Breast friend has the nice back support plus it stays in place.

  • Ditto PP, if you're nursing in the bed I would move someplace else.  I had DH bring our comfy living room chair up into the bedroom and I nurse there.  Much more comfortable than in the bed, I can lean back and then latch DS on.  Also, try not to slump when you latch.  Get comfortable, put baby into the hold you're using,  use your other hand to hold your breast, and then move baby to your breast, rather than leaning over to put the breast in baby's mouth.  I know that sounds like a lot to do, especially in the middle of the night, but it will become habit after you do it for a few days.  Hang in there, it does get better!

  • Thanks for all the advice I don't nurse in bed current I sit on the couch and have a pillow behind me and use a bobby which is also what I do during the day, I'm thinking about tonight trying either more pillows or moving to the chair
