TTC After a Loss

Vitamin D

So my OB's nurse called me yesterday to tell me that the only thing they got from all of my b/w was that my vitamin D was very low and I should take a supplement.

I'm really hoping this explains why I have been so tired and lazy lately.  I need to get my butt in gear if I'm going to make all these things I've pinned on Pinterest!

Here's to hoping I wake up tomorrow with a crazy amount of energy! FX!

Re: Vitamin D

  • I also have a low vitamin D level---I think it was 15 and its suppose to be above 30. They prescribed me prescription strength vitamin D.

I can tell a difference and I have been taking the prescription for about two months--I hope it helps!!

  • I hope you feel a difference too!  Most Americans have low Vit D3 these days since our lifestyles have changed and we're not out in the sun as much.  From recent bloodwork I had, the doc told me mine was low too and I now take 1000 IU a day and he'll be re-testing me in a few months.

  • I'm so glad to hear that it makes a noticeable difference!

And I am so looking forward to warmer weather.  I live in Michigan and we got a little tease of 80 degree weather, but we're back to cool and cloudy.  I cannot wait for summer!!!!

  • I recommend taking the liquid Vit D.  Our bodies are able to recognize it better and it gets your levels where they should be more efficiently than a pill.

<3 this.  I hope the Vitamin D helps so that you can be a Pinterest achiever!  I myself, have only pinned a billion things and have never done any of it.

I live in MI too!  And, I am low on Vitamin D3 as well, so I take 5000 IU daily.  I don't notice a difference, but my bloodwork does :-)

  • Last year I was endlessly sick. One head cold after another, the flu, strep throat, you name it. I was NEVER one to be sick, and if I was it was usually gone within 48 hrs.

The Dr. ran some blood work and discovered that my vitamin D was a whopping 3! I was prescribed 5,000 IU for 30 days, and have continued to take 1,000 IU daily ever since.

I haven't been sick since so for me it has definitely made a difference.

  • I have low D too.  Mine was 13 when they tested me.  I take 2000iu a day.  After 4 months it rose to 20.  Its an improvement but still low.  I try to get out in the sun for at least half an hour a day working in the garden or playing with the dog.

They have also linked low D to ovulation issues, which I found interesting.

Yes, there's quite a bit of clinical studies that have shown increased vitamin D levels as a key component in treating PCOS.
