Adoption Tax Credit

Sorry in advance if this has already been asked.... what does it mean if we got our "normal" refund in the mail yesterday without any of the adoption tax credit included?  I would have thought there would be a letter that said either declined or still pending or something.  It was literally just the check for our regular refund.

    We got the check for our "normal" refund as well, but I am pretty sure we also got a letter saying that the adoption credit part was under review. Check the IRS website for a phone number and you should be able to call and confirm what is going on.

    My tax professional who specializes in adoption taxes told me that I would receive my regular refund in the usual time frame and the adoption credit refund would come several months later.  She said the adoption part could come as much as 4-6 months later. She also said that they would not send a letter or anything unless they needed additional info. Hope this helps.

    That's what has happened to us.  Go to the IRS website to check your refund status:   https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof/lang/en/irfofgetstatus.jsp

     If it tells you that your information is under review, then they will probably be sending you a letter asking you to resubmit documentation.  We got that letter today.
