C-sections

Activity level after c-section

I am currently one week post c-section. Baby Emily was born via urgent c-section at 35 weeks. I was induced for low fluid and other complications, and she didn't handle labor well. My first LO was delivered vaginally.

I feel like I didn't get much instruction on activity level other than move, but don't do too much. It would be helpful to know what others are doing 1-2 weeks after delivery. DD is in the NICU so I've been walking around the hospital. Recently I've gone outside a few times for a short walk between feedings. Does this sound about right? I get a bit of pain by my incision when I am more active, but nothing major.

Thanks!

Re: Activity level after c-section

  • I think it sounds like you're doing great.  I started resuming some housework duties and taking slow walks about 1 1/2 weeks out, and by 3 weeks was on to longer walks on the trails.

Hope baby Emily is home soon!

  • I went crazy about 5 weeks after baby was born trying to clean. Don't do that. I came home a week after she was born.

Anyway's I felt sick and I was very swollen right after delivery and me trying to clean made that worse. So take your time. They gave me instruction's on what I could and could not do when I got home, they probably will do the same for you.Congrat's hope baby is doing well!!

  • There is no reason to do much of anything other than short and easy walks. Don't clean-especially anything that requires pushing/pulling or any lifting. I folded some laundry and did a few dishes, but DH did all of the heavy work and what he didn't do waited until I came out of my post baby fog at around 5 weeks PP. I was also told to limit stair climbing for the first week home (that is up until about 2 weeks PP) to once up and once down per day.
