Switching to formula...help!

So DD has soy & milk protein intolerance, but after more disturbing symptoms have appeared (even though I am soy and dairy free), I have decided to wean DD and move her completely to the Elecare.  For those of you who have switched over, how did you  gradually wean to the bottle?  I want to avoid too much pain from engorgement, blocked ducts, etc.  TIA!

  • I haven't done it, but wish you luck. If you're asking how to put LO on a bottle, I can tell you what my LC told me to do. But I'm not sure that you're asking how to do that. KellyMom has some info on weaning. https://kellymom.com/

  • Really, you could move DD completely to formula and wean yourself much more slowly using the pump.  When I weaned from the pump after DS, I did it over like 2 months, but I think maybe do something like start with pumping 6 times a day and drop a session every 1-2 days

  • My supply dropped like crazy just from pumping inconsistently at work.  I agree pumping is the best way to keep you from being in pain but to decrease your supply.  It honestly took two or three weeks- and that was with me BFing at home and on weekends.  GL!
  • I was able to get away from the pump after a week but I don't think I had that much of a supply to start with.  I basically just pumped whenever I felt uncomfortable but tried to stretch it out a little longer each time.  I also didn't empty my boobs completely...just enough to get rid of the discomfort.

  • Thank you everyone for the helpful suggestions!  Thankfully, DD has been a one-sided nurser for months so I am only actually having to deal with one breast being uncomfortable.   She doesn't really like to take a bottle from me, but she will do it.
