My last appointment my OB did a total 180. He said he wanted me to have the baby between the 15-22 of July. I am not even due until the 22nd. I told him I would be waiting until at least 40 weeks to do anything. He kept going on and on about how big DS was, and how it could be more dangerous for me the bigger this baby is. I have done my research and I know women have successfully VBACed a 10lb baby. DS was 9lbs and 1oz, and 21 inches long. I told him that I was not going to let him scare me into a c/s because of the weight of the baby. The ultrasound can be off on weight 1-2lbs.
The only reason I am even ok with another ultrasound is to check the position of DD and the placenta. I will do what is best for the baby, but I am not going to let him pressure me into a RCS. I just had to vent a little bit.
Re: I might have to get mean.
DS1 born June 2008 | m/c at 9w March 2011 | DS2 born April 2012
MY DS was 9lb 13oz! Yesterday was my due date, and NO talk of induction yet from my midwives, though *I* started the conversation about stripping my membranes on Thursday. I'll only consent to an induction at 42wks and beyond.
I worked very, very hard to diet/control what I was eating this pregnancy (I gained 80lbs with DS1), so hoping for a smaller baby, but even if baby is big, I'm not giving up on my VBAC! Most failed vaginal births of large babies are NOT due to their size, but "the cascade of interventions".
Absolutely start looking for a new doctor. This one is setting you up for a RCS.
For all he knows at this stage baby just had a major growth spurt and by EDD will be an average 7 lbs.
If he's already talking about a "big baby" he wants to RCS you and is just indulging your VBAC plans until he can scare or push you into a RCS.
How will you trust him when you're in labor if you are having to fight him? Will you know if you can trust his suggestions/recommendations?
Yeah, calling "big baby" at 24 weeks is crazy. Switch now!
And FWIW, my VBAC baby was 10.5 pounds. But I didn't have any late u/s with him, and no one was thinking he was going to be that large.
DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)
Agreed!
OP - Way to stand up for yourself! But you're definitely on an uphill battle. You're not going to change his opinion....and even if you could, do you want that stress? And then you'll have someone in the delivery room who is not vested in your success. Seems like a recipe for failure to me.
DD#1 was 9lbs 1oz and my provider hasn't said anything about LO#2 being too big to birth. Our biggest concern is getting LO#2 to start labor on their own, since DD was induced 15 days late.
