Every pail we had stunk, so we just take it to the regular garbage can and toss it. With as much as we toss all day, the garbage goes out almost daily anyway.
FTM, but we're using a small white metal trash can with pedal that dh had from before we were married. It's so tiny it's completely useless for real trash, so I've always appeased him by using it for recycling (the milk jug takes up the entire thing...).
It's actually his job tonight to clean it out for the nursery. We're starting off disposable, so we'll probably get a day's worth of diapers in there before tossing the bag-hopefully we won't smell them too much. When we move to cloth, we'll just put some water in the pail on the inside and toss the fabric liners in it until I'm ready to wash them. Apparently this is what a friend does and she says it works really well.

Blessing from God, Blessing from God, Blessing from God, Blessing from God.
We use a diaper genie and love it. We can stuff that thing full of nasty diapers and you don't smell it. It also takes quite awhile to go through the refills so the cost really isn't a big deal. We empty the pail once a week on trash night. We got a second one for DD2's room.
We used a small regular trash can with a tight lid/foot pedal. We used some grocery bags and the little diaper bags to wrap up icky ones and just put them directly outside.
We emptied the whole thing every day or every other day.
We used a diaper genie with DS and it wasn't that great.
I haven't decided what we'll do this time. Probably just put a poopy diaper in a grocery bag, tie it and call in done in the regular garbage. We'll just toss wet diapers in the garbage.
Diaper Genie all the way. Remember you're going to be holding baby's legs with one hand and a dirty diaper with the other, so having a foot pedel to open the top of the diaper genie helps significantly. Those first few months of breastfeeding mean that diapers are pretty much runny poop. You don't want to be fussing with the lid of a garbage pail while trying to stop poop from running down your hands and holding onto a baby at the same time; all while being sleep deprived!

We went with a Diaper Genie, but probably should have gone with the Diaper Champ. It would have been much less expensive to use regular garbage bags. We've actually switched to using the Arm & Hammer bags in the Diaper Genie, because it costs a little less. They fit pretty well.

I will cloth diaper for the most part, but come the weekend when I have to work, DH will use disposables. The dirty ones go in a tiny trash bag and walked to the outside trash can.
Considering every mom I know has discouraged any "diaper pail" they tried and they have tried all thats out there, I went with a small pedal trash can, and I'll just empty it frequently. I didnt want to waste money on specific refill bags. LO will be at my parents while we are at work and I dont plan on changing every diaper in the nursery so it seemed pointless.
We also used the Diaper Champ. As a previous poster stated, we only smelled it when we changed it, but it was so nasty when we did!! We actually started just throwing them in the regular trashcan after a while because we were tired of that urine smell in the champ...

We really like our Arm & Hammer Diaper Pail.
