I have been in bed all day feeling like I'm going to throw up but then don't. Do I need to throw up for this to pass? I feel sick for a reason but if I am not actually throwing up whats the issue? DH got off work early today bit I'm worried about tomorrow. What do you do when you are sick? How do you care for your LO even you can hardly stand?
Re: What do you do when YOU are sick?
I just push through it. I was sick until about 15 weeks with this pregnancy and we had a lot of "movie" days when I just couldn't do much. I also got the flu a few weeks ago and had to just handle it on my own while DH was at work. It is hard but when you have to do it, you have to do it. DD plays pretty independently thankfully so if I set out a few coloring books and crayons for her it would usually keep her entertained so I could lay down next to her.
Sorry you aren't feeling well!
I tried to get her to watch TV with me and a movie and she wasn't having any of it. She was throwing fits and wanted to climb all over me and I was just done. Can you believe it? The kid doesn't want to watch TV!
I am such a baby when it comes to nausea and vomiting. So once DH was off work I just laid in bed all day. Afraid to move, but even just laying here I feel like I am going to get sick. Then I worry that I won't get better UNLESS I get sick.
On the days I'm sick, the kids watch a lot of tv. Last week I had a stomach bug and was completely miserable. Fortunately on the day I was the sickest both kids had school, so I was able to get some rest. As luck would have it, DH came home early because he had taken his car to be serviced.
Usually when I'm sick I have to try and power through it. It's really hard for DH to get off work and we don't have any family super close. My dad lives about 1.5 hrs away and if it came down to it, I'm sure he would come and help out.
I keep the kids on the main level of the house (kitchen, living room, dining room, sitting room, playroom, and bathroom). I've been known to set up the pack and play in the sitting room so that I didn't have to carry DS2 up and down the stairs and I have DS1 take his nap in the playroom. On those days, DS1 is my helper and he will make himself or DS2 things like cereal or a sandwich and grab fruit or veggies for a snack. We freeze meals so I usually end up just making one of them for dinner.
We are 3 hours away from family and our only sitters are in college so unless I get sick on a weekend I'm on my own. DH can't take off work if I'm sick (if he's sick he still has to go to work until someone comes in to replace him). We did have to go stay with my parents once because I was passing out due to an infection and couldn't be left at the house with the kids alone.

when you are sick (and don't have back up) you have to get creative.
I remember when I was pregnant and feeling tired/crappy/nauseous.
I pulled out ALL of my shoes AND DH's shoes- and threw them all in a big @ss pile on the floor-
DD tried them all on- walked around in them-
played with them,
sorted them- put them in pairs.
And I laid on the couch- with my eyes half closed- it bought me a good 45 min.
you just have to get creative if you don't have someone to rely on
When I had mastitis DH took off just long enough for me to drive myself to the doc (who was like "next time we'll just phone in the prescription"..)... This time around, like the PP, make sure they've got a full belly and clean diaper and the rest has to be let go. The hard part is that when I was pregnant I was literally laid on my butt from 28w onward so the house is already trashed
because I haven't had enough time/backup to get it back under control since DH's housekeeping habits rank right there with the 7yo..
DD had a bug last week, but I'm not sure if I've got the bug now or if it's the "Big C word" trying to work its way through again.. Ugh, I don't want to take anything because it makes DS super fussy, but a lodged clog has the potential to be far worse and it's super painful... Plus no matter how many times I claim exhaustion (I am only getting short cat naps, no actual sleep since DS was born).. Sadly, I think unless the pain gets worse and I go in (of course I'll have to take DS with me while DD is at school), it's another case of suck it the heck up and power through it as best I can while watching both kids..
