Hey! I just saw this now...I haven't been on in a few days. Thank you for asking
Ethan is doing really well. He has been off the vent for about a month now. He still gets a small amount of humidified oxygen through the trach, but it's mostly just to prevent plugs from forming.
He gets a lot of physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech/feeding therapy. He still has definite developmental delays (even for his adjusted age), oral feedings are a struggle, and he doesn't bend his legs on his own. However, he continues to improve each day which is all we can ask for after everything he has been through. He has come a really long way since he was admitted to the rehab hospital.
He is at a point where he is able to come home, but the past few weeks have been such a headache with all the paperwork and logistical stuff that needs to be in place before they will discharge him. We have been going through our insurance and applying for Medicaid because he needs private duty nursing (he will be getting a nurse for 16 hrs a day/ 7 days a week), a butt load of medical equipment/supplies and his therapies. I swear, every time we think we are done we find out we need to fill out another piece of paperwork or contact some other agency. This is going to give me an ulcer!! We are hoping he will be able to come home either the end of this week or next week. I really hope so, because I am just so over this after 7 1/2 months of going back and forth to a hospital every day. I can't wait to have him home and all be together as a family!!
Thanks again for thinking of us!

I'm sorry you're having such headaches with all the paperwork. That sounds like a lot to deal with on top of being at the hospital every day for so long. I'm glad to hear that he is doing well is rehab. I pray he comes home sooner, rather than later. You will feel great to finally be a family under one roof. Please keep us updated! I am excited for you for his homecoming.
My boys are doing well. We've been home for about 2 months now. Ryan had to have his shunt revised a month after he came home and Aiden is having hernia surgery this month, which means back to the hospital for one night. But all is well, we are gaining weight and are happy to be home.
