Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Babbling

My son is about 5 1/2 months, from what I read, it's normal for babies to start babbling at this time....he doesn't babble at all. He might screech a little occasionally, but no talking. What has been normal for you with your babies?

Re: Babbling

  • My LO still loves to screech.  She really just started babbling (lalala, bababa) well a couple of weeks ago.  According to my ped, as long as you are seeing changes in "babbling," they're on the right track.  So, in the next month, expect new sounds.

My DS babbles up a storm (he is 8 months).  At 5 months I don't recall a ton of babbling maybe just sounds but they weren't very sophisticated or anything.  Don't worry he will start babbling more soon!

  • Mine has been babbling for quite some time (lalala, bababa, mamama, dadada) as well as screeching. She's not yet crawling or pulling herself up. Our ped said that they often focus one over the other (speech vs mobility) but that both comein due time, so we weren't to worry unless he said so.

  • My DD didn't start babbling until about 6 months 1 week old.  Before that she cooed and screeched.
  • N was definitely older than that.  I can't remember exactly but I want to say closer to 7 months or maybe even later.  He screeched a lot before that but not much else.

  • DS2 just started babbling last weekend...baba, dada sounds. also started jumping when I hold him. He does not roll over either way though.
