C-sections

Multiple C-Sections?

I have heard different things about having numerous c-sections. This will be my 2nd one and was curious if I had any chance of doing a total of 4? I would love to have two more LO after this one.... Some people say that 3 is a safe number and that 4 c-sections have a higher risk. Does anyone know if this is true??

Re: Multiple C-Sections?

  • My OB doesn't like to do more than 3 or 4. He said it depends on how things look as far as scar tissue, the placenta, health of mom & previous babies, etc. DH would love to have one more but I think I am done (I've had 3 c/s).

  • We would also love to have 4 total, but I am preparing my self to only have 3, for this reason.
  • Is VBAC an option for you? It might be worth attempting if you want to have four kids.

It's really an individual thing, and you have to ask your doctor what they recommend for you.

  • I think it all depends on your body!  This will be my second c-section and I think I'm done...but I'm not going to rule out a third!!  I do know many people that have had 4 and 5 c-sections.

  • I think it depends on the person.  I have friends who have had 4 c-sections successfully.  I personally just had my 3rd and know that I am done!
  • This will be my 3rd c-section. DH and I are done having kids but my OB said that at least one more c-section after this would be fine and even a few more would probably be fine.

  • I am having my 4th c-section in June.  Doctor has said that the only concern he has with multiple c-sections is that the placenta can attach to the scar tissue and that can cause serious complications.  However he also was not against me having another baby after this if we chose to do so.

  • I've only had three c-sections but I was complemented on my uterine scarring while in the middle of my third c-section,  The OB said I'd be able to have another if I wanted... I don't know if I've ever heard that there was a magic number on how many you can and can't have - I think it's a case by case scenario.

  • My OB says it's a case by case thing depending on the scar tissue, health of mom and baby etc. With that said I'm having my 3rd c/s in June and he asked me last appt if we were going for another or not after this. He said my scar tissue was minmally at my 2nd c/s and if I wanted to know if a 4th was possible they could tell me during this c/s. I immediately told him no and I wanted my tubes tied. I'm done done done.

  • I'm told that I should only have 1 more, but that it's up to us if we try for # 4. That so will not be happening so I'm just getting 1 more.

  • I have heard but really don't know facts, that you can only have 4 c-sections. I don't know what happens if you get pregnant a 5th time?

  • I will soon be having my 8th c-section in 10 years- 4 were a year apart!  Each woman is different-so ask your doctor DURING the delivery if your uterus looks like it could handle another baby. Some women can only handle 1 or 2 and some can handle more. The risk does increase with more surgeries. I'm not sure what your faith is, but we are Christians and leave it all up to God!  My German doctors encourage us every time. This is my first time with an American doctor and one is very nervous, the other thinks it's great! There just isn't enough research yet as women haven't ventured to have more babies!  I ask with each surgery and so far, keep getting the "green" light! Many blessings for a safe delivery and many more babies!!
