best pads for postpartum?

My friends have been recommending I buy some menstrual pads, soak them in witch hazel, and stick them in the freezer to use in the days postpartum. I haven't used menstrual pads in forever! Can you rec your favorite, softest, big pads? I'd prefer a natural brand if possible. TIA!

  • Where I agree that the witch hazel will help I have been told that even if you have swelling down there past 24 hours post delivery it is usually from excess water and the ice packs/treatment wont help that. Although it is suggested for up to 24 hours after. I also read this on TB today. I just bought a 28 ct package of Always over nights but I plan on getting a small package of depends *someone else suggested that also. And I plan on raiding the hospital pram/closet the nurse in L&D told me and my husband to take whatever was needed, basically raid the crap out of it.

  • I read recently that the Always overnights were the best too, but not on TB, on another board. I don't remember what I used last time. I'm soooo NOT looking forward to this part of recovery. ugh!

  • I bought Always extra long, super with wings.  I hadn't heard of freezing them - I'm not sure how comfortable they would be considering they couldn't shape to your body (unless they were not completely saturated when you put them in the freezer).  My doctor had me fold Tucks pads in half and put them directly on the swelling.  I'd just replace the pad every time I went to the bathroom.  That worked wonders for me.

  • You should put the pads in a bowl to freeze so they are curved to fit the body better. Also, be sure to dilute the witch hazel.

  • the always infinity ones were the ones I used last time....I found these ones didn't stick to my stitches!
  • I bought the always overnight pads. I used mostly what the hospital provided. I didn't realize the always overnight pads were so huge. I haven't really needed them much. I probably should have used them in the hospital. But at least I will have them for the next few months while my period regulates. Right now I'm using Kotex thin pads.
