Breastfeeding

More Milk, Less Often

Is there a way I can help to get my LO drink more, less often? I thought the every 45 mins to an hour was a growth spurt but it's been over 2 weeks now. I offer both breasts now...I didn't before because of oversupply (it's regulating itself better now). But it's hard to get anything done when he wants to eat an hour from the last time, after I burp him and rock him a bit.

  • i would make sure he's actively sucking and swallowing so he gets a "full meal" instead of constant snacking. and if he ends up just soothe sucking, maybe find a toy or something else that can occupy him until he's actually hungry again.

  • You are probably smarter than me but, I was mistaking tired cries for hunger cries. As soon as I started getting him to sleep when he was crying before 2 hours, he went longer between feedings. Also to get him back on track I gave him a 4 oz bottle in order to get him full and space the feedings out so I had time to make more milk.

I did this! There were days when he never would nap and I thought he was hungry, but, duh, he was just sleepy!
