Swimming pool covers

We have an inground pool in our back yard and we are starting to look around for options in relation to safety. I was wondering if anyone had any advice in relation to what to get? We are looking at both nets and covers. We use the pool quite a lot so want something easy to remove but obviously safety is our top concern.

Also, if anyone has one of these, would you mind giving me some costing ideas for our budget? I've looked online but everywhere says to contact them for a quotation and as we live abroad, that would be hard to do!

TIA

Re: Swimming pool covers

  • From what I've seen watching house hunters and whatnot, IMO fences look the best. We have a decent size pool. Messing with a giant cover everytime you want to use the pool is unrealistic. Once we took the solar cover off last year it was off for good.

  • Loading the player...
  • I would suggest that, whatever cover you use, that you get an underwater pool alarm like Pool Guard, especially with a L/O around.

  • Fences are going to be your best option in terms of safety and ease of use (of the pool). The cost varies so much of material type/length/height/location etc...

Good for you for getting it taken care of early on. Pools are SO dangerous,  you just canot be too careful!

  • Dragonfly - yup, we were also planning on getting an alarm - going for as many layers of safety as possible!

     The plan is

    1. You can lock the back of our yard from the front so the front will be the primary play area. Not allowed around the back without an adult who can swim

    2. Something around/over the pool to stop them falling in

    3. An alarm incase something goes wrong with 1 and 2

    4. Pool safety lessons as soon as they are able to crawl! We have a friend who teaches these and she recommends them from very early

    5. Both DH and I have done infant CPR as will any other adult who looks after LO often incase 1 - 4 fails.

We love being outside and love water and find it great, espcially in the summer so this is somesthing very important for us as filling in the pool isn't really an option (as a friend suggsted!)

  • Great idea! We cant avoid pools her ein AZ, my kids start lessons at 4 months. Not only is it best for safety reasons, but they are proving that it helps with their motor skills and sensory issues as well!
