DH had an art opening work function (his work) this past weekend, and I was stressing over it a bit - I didn't want to buy a maternity dress too far in advance as there are some that look better when you are bigger, others when you are smaller. Friday night it hit me that this thing was Sunday and I hadn't even looked at dresses yet.
I did decide to check the dresses that I already had to see if I would be able to make one of them work - I'm not overly keen on spending anywhere from $40-100 on a new dress that will get worn a maximum of 3 times.
I am so thankful! I had 3 dresses that still fit - and fit nicely! The dress that I ended up wearing had some great shape - you could totally tell that I am pregnant (but only if you saw me from the front or side - from the back I just looked normal). It wasn't tight or pulling anywhere, or even super clingy. Honestly - it was exactly what I was hoping any dress that I would wear would be. And it was free!
It actually fit so well that I might wear it to my shower on Saturday - much to my mother's dismay (when I told her that I was still able to fit this dress she sounded disappointed - like she was hoping I was bigger or something). Meh - the less money I have to spend on Mat clothes the better.
What about you ladies? Are you still wearing any pre-pregnancy clothes or is it all Mat wear all the time? What about to any special events you have?
Re: Didn't need a new dress!
I have been wearing pretty much all maternity clothes except some tshirts and skirts I have that are stretchy.
I bought one maternity dress for a Sweet 16 I have to go to at the end of April. I really don't want to buy another one for my shower (a lot of same guests at both parties otherwise I'd wear it twice).I think I'll try to make it work with something I already have.
It's great that you didn't have to go out and buy something!
That's awesome! I know what you mean about spending money on maternity clothes- I hate spending a ton of money on stuff I'll only be wearing for a very short while.
Except for a few stretchy camis and tanks, all of my shirts are out, but a surprising number of pants still fit. Not just yoga pants and leggings, but actual button-fly pants. They were all a bit loose-fitting before I got pregnant, but I tried them out about three months ago and they fit perfectly, so I've got two pairs of jeans (my loose comfy jeans- tight skinny jeans were the first things to go!) and 3 pairs of dress pants that are still comfy and fit just right under my belly. I think I will probably just have another couple weeks before they are too small, but I am loving it for now! I have a few pairs of jeggings that still fit too. I have worn them throughout my pregnancy and they are SO comfy- actually, when it comes down to it, I don't think there is much difference between jeggings and those elastic-waist-below-the-bump maternity pants.
Summer dresses are still packed away because it's still cold here but I'm pretty sure that some of my looser fitting sundresses will still fit too.
I have a few dresses that still fit, but they have longer sleeves and it is now approaching 90 here in Florida so... not wearing them so much.
My stretchy tank tops no longer cover my belly!! That just happened a couple of weeks ago, so I just had to order a couple of maternity tanks online last week.
Thats great that you didnt have to drop any more dough! I dont think I'll be buying any more mat clothes from now on either...
I had a funeral for all my regular clothes back in November. The bloating really did me in-I have a very small waist normally and carry my weight in my hips. So as soon as I started to bloat around my midsection, I lost everything. All my tops, pants, skirts, etc. I've been wearing the same pair of maternity jeans for 5 months!
I do have a few pre-maternity tops that still fit, but they are super stretchy and have to have a long tank top under them or my belly shows.
If I get the urge to shop now, I just buy in my pre-pregnancy size and stick it away for after baby comes. I have some REALLY cute clothes I can't wait to wear. It's the foundation my hot mama wardrobe, courtesy of my addiction to Anthropologie.
