Disney 3 & 6 yr old- stroller??

If you went to Disney with a 3 year old would you take or did you take a stroller along?  What about the 6 year old?  Friends of ours just came back and they have an almost 6 year old and they wished they had a stroller?? I was thinking at 6 DS shouldn't need a stroller and I actually didn't think about taking one for my 3 year old either, but now I'm thinking maybe I should at least take one for my 3 year old?  If you did take one, what did you do with it on the plane?

Re: Disney 3 & 6 yr old- stroller??

  • Definitely. We went in December with our 3&6 yr old and took our Maclaren strollers. We have 2 of maclaren Volvos.Don't bother renting the strollers from Disney cause they are not comfortable and have no storage on them. There are several stroller rental companies in the area that will deliver the stroller to your hotel and pick up at the end of your stay.

  • We went last year when my twins had just turned 5.  We rented a double stroller from the park(s) and it was a lifesaver.

  • Yes.

The last time we went my kids were 5, 3 and 10 months.  We brought a double and a single.  It is ALOT of walking, just to get into the park.  They have them to rent there.  We either check them or gate check them, last time we checked the single and gate checked the double (for the baby and 3 year old for the airport).

My cousin takes her kids all the time and just stopped taking a stroller for her 8 year old, but still brings one for the 6 year old.

  • Yes. We just went with our almost 4 year old and I debated about taking one. We really would not have survived without it. Even WE were exhausted from walking so much, there is no way he could have handled it. He was exhausted even riding in the stroller, and he actually napped in it every day we were there, and this kid never naps.

Echoing everyone else.  Yes, take one!

I, too, debated about taking one for my 3 & 5 yr old because when we go to the zoo, museums, shopping we never use one anymore but every guide I read said take one, so I did, and am so glad.  Disney is huge and requires alot of walking combined with the heat can be exhausting for adults let alone kids.  I found it great to cover them from sun while we waited in meet & greet lines outside, for snacking, and for going to & from parking lots.

  • Orlando Stroller Rental rents them out. They deliver to your hotel and will pick it back up when you leave, so you get to keep it your entire stay. They have a lot of good reviews and use nice strollers with several options (singles/doubles).
  • Definitely..  We went in November and are going again in 3 weeks (inlaws have a home in Florida) and I wish I had a stroller for me!  LOL  It is a lot of walking especially if you are going to use FastPass for some rides.  You walk to get a FastPass walk to go on other rides and then walk back to the ride you have the FastPass for.  As far as the plane goes, you can take the stroller right to the gate with you or check it.  It is free.

  • I am going in the fall, girls will be 4 1/2 and 6 and we will have a stroller.  Disney is a ton of walking and I do not want to be carrying my kids.  Plus having the stroller gives me a place to leave our sweatshirts and anything else extra we have like water bottles.  The less I need to carry and having a place for my kids to rest or just sit so we can move from place to place faster will be huge and yes, I am getting a double stroller.

  • We just went for spring break; we had a double and a single stroller for my crew which includes a 6.5 year old.   It was great for keeping everyone together (more easily).   We rented the double from Orlando Stoller Company (since I couldn't fly with one-AA).   It was $80 for the week I believe and its nice to rent in that you can have it around the hotel/park lots also.  They drop off and pick up the stroller at your hotel.

  • We took two umbrella strollers.  One we parked by the front gate and left most of the day, but it was nice to have to get in and out of the world and for a parade seat for my older one.  I also took my ergo for my 3 year old for the lines.  It worked nicely.  He was much happier not having to stand for 20 or 30 minutes in line.
  • Disney is a lot of walking!  Heck at times I would would have loved to sit in the stroller my legs were so tired. I have a 5 year old and she told me we need to take the stroller next time we go even though we always take it.

We have either gate checked or just checked the stroller in w/ the luggage at the front.

  • I would never consider Disney without a stroller for a 3yo and having a 3yo and 6yo I would want a double, if they need it you have it an if not you have more storage. But my friend went in Feb with her 7.5yo and 6ym old and said she would never bring a stroller for them and they would never go in one, their 1yo was obviously in a stroller. But then again I for for tons of long walks and always has a jogger type stroller so my 5yo would complain after about a mile.

  • I just got back from Florida.  We did the MK for a day with the two older kids (7 & 4).  We didn't bring a stroller but rented a double at 2:30pm b/c we were staying until 10pm (and got there at 8am for a princess breakfast) so it was a very long day. If we had been doing a few shorter days I wouldn't bring/rent one, there is a lot of walking but the kids get lots of breaks on the rides/eating/waiting in line. However for a long day it is nice to have.

I like that their strollers are made for older kids, there is no way my 7 year old would be happy in our stroller. For me storage wasn't an issue.  I didn't want to drag a bunch of stuff around anyway- everything we had fit in my purse.  I would not feel comfortable leaving anything in the stroller while we were on rides anyway.

  • We brought an umbrella for our 1yr old thinking our 4 & 6 (almost 7yr old) would walk the entire time.  After the first day (we spent 6 days) we started renting a double stroller for the older 2.  It was SO worth the money...no more complaining by the kids, kept them contained in crowds, etc.  I loved it...and probably would let my almost 8yr old ride in one when we go to Disney(land) this June.

  • My DS was 4 and we took a stroller.  He fell asleep in it almost every day.  He was not in it the whole time, but when he wasn't, my 6 year old neice was in it a lot.  You can rent a double stroller there if you like.  We brought ours so I don't know the cost of those.  I gate checked my stroller.
  • I would. Ditto the pps suggestions for rentals, and also look at BRU. I had something from them in my news feed that they rent strollers now in the Orlando area.
  • I'm clearly in the minority but at ages 3 and 6, we did NOT bring a stroller.  I didn't regret it once - it was completely fine without it.  We brought one the year before (ages 2 and 5, duh!) and used it more for storing crap than pushing kids.

FWIW, we mostly were at the parks from 9 to 2 ish each day (then would go back to hotel to swim).  Maybe it would have been different if we stayed into the evening each day.

  • We went to Disney in early March with an almost 5 year old.  We did not bring a stroller and she didn't want or need one. She did good too.
  • i would definitely take/rent a double stroller.  i'm 29, and i wish i could be pushed through the parks at the end of the day.

  • We actually didn't even bring our double stroller on the trip to Disney we took w/ our almost 2, almost 3 & almost 6 yr old at the time...my almost 3 yr old walked the whole time, I don't know how looking back!  My almost 2 yr old was the one who used the stroller & my 6 yr old walked...I couldn't remember what we did & I just looked back at the photos & was surprised to see I didn't bring my double that time....I'm sure the 6 yr old would be fine, but I'd bring a stroller for the 3 yr old, maybe.  Even just to have as a back up.
