TTC After a Loss

Provera questions

I just took my first dose after coming home from the OB.  She said I should take it for 10 days to restart my cycle, but if my cycle should start before the 10 days is up then to just stop taking it. So, I'm just curious and I have a handful of questions for anyone whose used provera before:

Did any of you not have to take it the full days?

Did it not work for anyone? (Is that even possible?)

Did it make your AF beastly?

Did it make you neasous like the pharmacist warned me it might?

Did it give you nasty cramps leading up to AF?

Just curious...I'm always a little nervous when I start any type of medication I've never used before.   Here's to hoping this works quickly so we can get back on the TTC train!

Re: Provera questions

  • I'm on day 4 with mine. Last time I used it, I had to take it all 10 days, then AF came about 3 days later. Not a bad one, no worse bleeding or cramps than usual, for me at least. I have heard other ladies stating it didn't work, then had to go to Prometrium (I think), but I think that's less common. I haven had an ounce of nausea with it, and I'm pretty sensitive to that symptom with most other medicines. Good luck to you!!

  • I took all ten days. AF came the Thursday after I was finished taking all the ten days. My cramps were pretty severe, but they always were. AF was super light--only lasted three days. I don't know if that was normal or not though!

  • I took provera back in November.  I had to take the full dose.

It did bring on my period, but did not jumpstart my system the way that I had hoped. (I took prometrium in the middle of March and hope my body responds better to that.)

Nope, AF really never got much more than glorified spotting, no clots even.

I don't remember being nausous, or really bad cramps.  My face did break out though.  And I was a little bit more b!tchy than usual.

Hi kps! I missed you! Smile

I just started Provera on Friday (I had no idea you and I were both on this bandwagon!). Technically, that was CD77 for me (post-m/c). I was told to take it all 10 days, even if AF comes sooner. I haven't had any symptoms in terms of nausea or anything else. I've heard some women say that it causes a very light period--usually, apparently, that means that it hasn't "worked" as well as it might.

My bigger question is if anyone's gotten a BFP in the cycle that was started by Provera. My OB said we could start TTC again right away, and I know there's no guarantee of O'ing, but I'd still love a little hope...

Hey to you! I hope that trip of yours was great.

That's what I was wondering too, do we still have to wait a cycle before TTC again? I feel like it's still going to take me another cycle to O.

How did you know that it didn't restart your cycles?  So the spotting that other people were talking about isn't good? Hmm...I've never been so looking forward to and hoping for a raging, dark red, AF in my whole life.

I feel so dumb about this whole thing, I just wish my body would be normal!!

Edit: I didn't read the whole thing and asked a dumb question at first...but ignorance solved.

  • Just finished AF after 5 days of Provera. My period was normal length/flow and I didn't have much in the way of side effects. No cramps for me! I took the pills at night, so that may have helped. Now  hoping to be the BFP success story after Provera! Good luck!
