I just took my kids to their first kids' show -- Disney on Ice 100 Years of Magic. I felt especially proud of my selfless behavior given I don't particularly like ice skating. But it was what was in town when I felt like indulging the kids. After a $12 snow cone (I'm sure that souvenir cup made all the difference) and a $12 popcorn (which was actually all eaten) and who knows how much for DH's soda and water, I survived. And more importantly, the kids were both mesmerized beginning to end. They didn't really care that for the harder jumps, those were nailed about 15-20% of the time only and there were a number of falls or hands down. And DH really scored because he bought tickets right away and didn't tell me but bought the more expensive ones so we were on the corner of the stage, front row, with the skaters often stopping right in front of us and when the kids could go up at the end, DD and DS were right there and got to shake hands or high-five a bunch of the skaters (that was DD's favorite part).
Well, at least I know where the money to buy the happiness in the Happiest Place on Earth comes from.

Re: Entered a new parenting threshold
You're a braver soul than I, Pesky!
$12 for a cup of ice and flavoring???? No freakin' way!
Agreed!! My kids wouldn't sit through that (but they also don't like figure skating), so kudos for sitting through the show. And that snow cone better have been hand shaved by pixies or something for that price. It's like the $8 beer and $20 hamburgers at the hockey game - yeesh.
Glad it went well, despite the overpriced food and drinks.
We considered Disney on Ice but nixed it due to cost and also thinking Aaron wouldn't be interested in any character except for Mickey and Pals. We ARE, however, going to Sesame Street Live next weekend (after Passover/Easter) and are hoping he'll do OK.
