Out without LO?

My husband told me this morning that when he gets home from class I should go out & get a massage or my hair down and he will watch the baby.  LO is 2 weeks old... my response was to get teary, I just don't think I'm ready.

Has anyone been out without LO? and how old was the baby when you first left them?

Re: Out without LO?

  • I went out without LO last week.  He was a little over two weeks.  I was out maybe 90 minutes getting things for his first Easter.  It was hard but that was the first time I had been out (not counting visiting relatives with baby and doc appts) since he was born.  It was nice but I missed him like crazy!

  • I went out for the first time by myself about 4 days after giving birth. I made a quick trip to the grocery store to pick up milk - I was gone maybe 30 minutes total. I also got a massage when LO was 10 days old.  A couple of friends watched LO for the hour I was gone - she slept the whole time.

I made it a point to go out because I knew I would eventually be going back to work, and I didn't want to have separation anxiety.

  • About 3 or 4 days after he was born I went out to Target to pick up a few things and was only gone for about an hour.  When he was about 3 wks I left him home with my husband so I could go to the movies with a friend and I've left him home a few times just to run to the store really quickly.  It is a little scary the first time you do it but after that it's not bad and it really is nice to know that you can leave occasionally if you need to.

  • Wow, our hospital put a two week driving restriction on me and my friend (whose delivery was much easier than mine).  So, I think my first outing without LO will be next week when LO will be a little over 3 weeks old.

I've only left my 3 week old to walk the dogs briefly around the neighborhood. She is not on an eating schedule, so I can't leave her more than a few minutes. When I go back to work in June, I'll be pumping and she'll get bottles then, but we don't even have a pump yet and I've been told not to try a bottle before 6 weeks or it could screw up the breastfeeding.
  • LO is 2w4d and I'm nowhere near ready. I know I will have to leave her when I go back to work and will leave her for small amounts of time before then, but not yet :)

Glad I'm not the only one feeling this way!

  • I went to get my nails done this morning.  By the end of the pedicure, I got a text from DH that said "She's very awake and crying.  Please hurry."  Haha!  He'll get better about it by the time I go back to work!

  • My SIL is loving being a first time aunt and offered to babysit one night last week so DH and I could go out to dinner. We were gone for about 2.5-3 hours (went to dinner then Home Depot to get a few things on the way home). LO was just under 2 weeks old. I'll be honest, it was nice to be just the 2 of us for a little bit.
  • Yup, a few times now - I think the first time he was 2.5 weeks - I try to get out without him a few times a week. We are going on our first date night without both kids this week and I can't wait!
  • I ran down the street to Target at about 2 weeks while DH watched him. This weekend we went on our first date night while MIL watched him. I called to check up on him once, but didn't cry.

I did for the first time on saturday when DS was 4 weeks. I bolted from the house like an escaped convict, and it was glorious. I got some shopping done, and I picked up my pump from BRU so I can start pumping and going out on the weekends more often. DH can give him a bottle, and I can get some freedom. :)

Haha, me too!  DH and I left the baby (2 weeks) with my mom and went to dinner (gone maybe an hour and a half).  Today (2 weeks/ 5 days) I dropped the baby off at my parents house and I did a ton of errands and was gone about 3 hours.  I thought I would have missed LO, but I hate to say that I didn't too much.  I knew she was in good hands and it felt nice to have some freedom and be able to have some quiet time without screaming....

  • I haven't left DD yet and she's 5 weeks.  My first time will be tomorrow when I go to an appointment that she can't go with me to.  I think the main reason for this is because DH doesn't think that he can handle two by himself yet...haha!  He even "forgot" about my appointment tomorrow.

haha .. that would be me.  I am getting into the habit of handing him off to hubby while he is at home so he is used to dealing with everything when I go back to work.  He is doing a great job but still has some ways to go when it comes to reading baby and figuring out that a bottle and clean diaper does not fix all that ails lol.  Sometimes he just looks so overwhelmed and lost.. but other times they are just so attuned it's scarey.  I try and drop hints and give him ideas on stuf fto try without being overbearing.. but I don't think he is really ready to fly solo for toooo long LOL .. he does sing and hum to LO which is so cute and LO loves it.. he never felt comfy talking to the bump, but when he thinks no one else is around he sings and talks and  hums to him ... gotta love him.

I rarely ever go anywhere without him anyway other than work, so other than when one of us is at work or asleep ( he works nights) we pretty much co-parent anyway.
