  • We started out EBF.  After a week, I couldn't do it anymore, so we were going to go to all formula since we were supplementing anyways.  Decided to try pumping.  I pumped and FF for about a month before switching to 100% formula.

DD was gaining weight fine EBF but I couldn't physically handle it.  Pumping was going good until DD started being awake more during the day and refusing naps unless she was being held.  It was kind of hard to pump and hold her at the same time.

  • I started out being okay with whatever.  In the hospital he got bottles of formula because we had latch issues and I just wasn't that into breastfeeding.  I was tired and breastfeeding was much harder than I ever imagined.  (I wish I would have taken a class...)

Since being home he has become more and more EBF.  The last time he got any formula was on St. Patty's day because I wanted to go out and I didn't have enough milk stored up.  He got about 4 ozs that day.

I am becoming really opposed to formula.  Something about the way it smells just really turns me off and I don't want to give it to my baby if at all possible.  It's really weird because I only started to breastfeed to try and save money (I'm a SAHM).  I was FF and I never thought anything bad about it until I started giving it to my own baby.

  • My milk never came in, so I am FF. I have no choice but to be fine with this decision and truthfully, I think it's great. DH has always been able to help with the nighttime feedings, which helps him feel bonded with DD too.

  • We started out BF but it was much harder than I thought. DD wasn't gaining well and I was very stressed out. We decided to do half BF and half FF. We lasted about a week with that and went to all formula. I felt so much more confident with formula so I knew that was the right choice for us.

  • I tried BF but DS would not latch on (the lactation consultants even gave up). I then tried pumping and my DS would get sick.  Finally tried Formula and he no longer got sick.  His Doctor says that he has a protein intolerance to breast milk and formula is better for him at this point so FF it is.

  • I always knew I would BF, maybe pumping a few times to have DH feed LO. I wanted to BF for the health benefits and the monetary savings as well. BFing definitely did not go as I expected. I thought I was prepared for everything, bad latch, clogged milk ducts, mastitis. I took the class offered by the hospital etc... Nothing I had done before hand had prepared me for the "no latch" scenario. LO was just super sleepy at birth and the first two weeks. We have tried everything and seen 4 different LCs (a few of them more than once). I started pumping in the hospital and supplementing with formula and that is what we are still doing. it is definitely not easy and I have had a hard time dealing with the guilt and frustration. We are going to see a speech therapist soon to see if LO's high palate is the cause of his latching issues, but if that doesn't work I'm going to continue on pumping and supplementing as long as I can, but I'm basically just taking it one week at a time.
