Paige's birth story and PIP

So, as most of you know, I was scheduled for an induction on Thursday, March 29th due to all the issues I've been having with this pregnancy.  We did an amnio on Wednesday to check for lung maturity and found out that night that it was immature, so the induction was cancelled.  I was upset that I wasn't going to be meeting her as planned, but ok with it since I certainly did not want to take her too early.

I went in for a follow-up with my OB on Thursday to set a new induction date.  She checked me while I was there and found I was already 4 cm.  I also had a few strong contractions that she felt while I was there.  She told me that if they continued she wanted me to go to the hospital and they would not stop my labor.  This was at about 2:30.  By 4 my contractions were getting regular so I started timing them.  Over the next two hours I had over 20 contractions an hour, all ranging from 2-3 minutes apart and 1-2 minutes long.  So, we called our friends to come watch Adelynn and headed to the hospital.  We got there to find out my doctor had pre-admitted me, so I got hooked up and we were on our way!  This was about 6:30.

My contractions were getting steadily closer and more intense.  By 8 I was at 6 cm and asked for my epidural.  Apparently they had the slowest doctor there that night because it took almost 2 hours for her to get to me.  The nurse checked me around 9:30 and I was still stuck at 6 cm, so my OB said to go ahead and give me a very small amount of Pitocin to get things moving again.  We decided to wait to start it until I got my epi though.  It was finally in place by 10:30 and I was feeling great.  The nurse started the Pitocin and DH and I were able to get some rest.

My OB came around 1:30 a.m. to check on me.  I was up to 7 cm so she decided to go ahead  and break my water.  As soon as she did they started prepping the room because I dilated so quickly with Adelynn after my water broke (5.5 cm. in 10 minutes).  By 2 I was fully dilated with just a lip of cervix left.  10 minutes later I was good to go.  I started pushing at 2:20 a.m. and pushed through 5 contractions.  She made her entrance at 2:29 a.m.  I couldn't believe how fast it was because it took me almost 2 hours to get Adelynn out.  Her face was bruised when she came out because she descended and was delivered so quickly.  I guess she smacked her face on my pelvic bone on the way down.  She is perfectly healthy, no lung issues at all.  It turns out that they test 2 proteins in the amnio - 1 of hers came back mature, and the other was borderline, so they were really just playing it on the safe side by cancelling the induction.  My OB also told me that the stress of labor can cause a baby's lungs to mature very quickly.

We came home on Saturday.  They offered to let us stay another night but I just wanted to get back to my own bed and Adelynn was really missing us.  She's adjusting well to being a big sister.  At first she didn't want anything to do with Paigr or me, but after about an hour in the hospital she did a 180 and now can't get enough of her.  Poor thing cries every time Paige cries because it upsets her so much that her sister is sad.  We're all doing great and are just getting used to being a family of 4!
