Schedule Comments-Vent-

Hi Ladies!

Me,the endocrinologist,3 NICU nurses, our pediatrician, and a NICU doctor all sat down and made a schedule for Ellie. One of my friends said it was way to detailed and I was going to have no life and be so tired. I am hurt and offended by this.  My daughter's health will trump anything in the whole world. Re: Schedule Comments-Vent-

  • I can't imagine what you're going through, this has to be so hard!

The schedule is super detailed, but if you and the doctors came up with it, it must be what's best for Ellie. It probably helps to be really detailed like this too, so it keeps you all on track. (I'm slightly OCD, so I like detailed lists and schedules :) ) And like you said, your daughter's health comes first! It may be hard, but as a parent you just "do what you gotta do"! I believe you can do it, and don't forget to ask for help!!

I think your friend just doesn't understand what you're dealing with and just didn't say the right thing. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Good luck to you guys!!!

  • I'm guessing Ellie's schedule is non-negotiable because of the diabetes and the need to test/feed often?  If you're committed to sticking with it, it looks pretty reasonable to me.  I'm curious if you'd be able to let the girls go longer between feeds as they get older, especially Ellie.  My DS has been transitioning from feeding every 1-2 hours to every 3.  I'd assume that'd be worked out between you and you girls' doctor though.

  • Yes, it's going to be hard and you're going to be tired, but it'll be worth it. Every mother is tired and you're the mom to twins, so it's going to be a lot to juggle. But you're right- your LOs health is above all else and you'll take it all in stride. Especially after spending 13 weeks without Ms. Ellie!!

I agree that it looks manageable, and I'd say that as the sweet angels get a little older you'll be able to go a bit longer between feeding them... but I know you'll just take it as it comes :)

  • As they get older we will have less feedings. It is non-negotiable because of the diabetes as you said.

It is hard but it is worth having her home. I am so OCD it is not funny so I need detailed schedules and lists.  I understand she doesn't fully understand what I am going though.

  • You make whatever schedule you need to in whatever way you need to in order to care for your girls. Don't let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn't do. Your girls will fall into their own natural rhythm eventually but if this is what is going to be best for you and your daughters right now, then you go for it.

  • There seems to be a natural rhythm to this schedule that should help your days fall into place. Whatever it takes, you'll have your sweet girl home!

  • To me this schedule seems natural. I don't think it will take you long to get it goin without even thinking about! Dd basically tells me her schedule now. She got very upset when she missed play time. When I got home and put her in the bouncer with toys she was sooooi happy.

  • I assume your friend doesn't have kids and couldn't understand that they are your life, so I'd try not to be offended.  I'm sure I would have been overwhelmed for a friend that had your schedule, but as a mom you do what you have to do (and only a mom can get that).

My only suggestion on the schedule is to figure out what parts are negotiable (perhaps with Brooke), and also to stagger some help since you're at the mercy of your girls for the sleep part (like perhaps get help Tue/Thur so you can sleep a few hours).  I use to work for a CEO that always used the example of the airlines telling you to put on your own airmask before assisting children - basically we have to also take care of ourselves to enable us to take care of the children.  I know that really seems like a joke to many desperate for sleep, but I mean it in the most sincere way since you have 2 to look after.  Not sure if help is possible, but figure out how to get rest yourself so you can take good care of your girls.

  • I think your schedule will work out great. My husband has type 1 diabetes and is on an insulin pump. I'm sure being on a tight schedule will really keep her sugar under control.  I'm sorry you have to go through this but there are a lot of advancements with diabetes research these days!

She has kids but she doesn't understand fully. I actually just got a called about an hour ago from a young adult who is 22 just out of college and was looking for a nanny job. So we are going to meet this week and figure stuff out! I knew I would need help so I am glad we found someone early on in our search. The thing is I have been getting great nights of sleep from 1/1-2/14(B came home 2/15) and Brooke is an excellent sleeper so hopefully while they nap I can also get a little one too. It seams like a lot but it will be manageable and we will adjust to it soon.

  • The only thing I can think of is:

YOU GET TO HAVE HER HOME!!!!!!

Whatever it takes to have all your kids at home will be worth it.

  • I think you have come up with a great schedule. The only thing I might do is let brooke sleep thru the night if she will. Do the schedule for a week and then see if Brooke will skip one meal if she wants to and is growing good. That way you get a little break. And since Ellie was in the NICU she is probably already used to this schedule which will help out a ton. My son was in the NICU for 45 hours and was already on the schedule before we went home and was on it for a few weeks. Then he started sleeping more at night and is getting on his schedule. Good luck and I know u can do it. You can mess around with diabetes so a schedule is the best thing. Don't listen to people who put down your schedule. They are naive about diabetes.
