Books

DS has started to be more interested when we read lately. What books do you and your LO enjoy most? We are enjoying the Usborne Touchy Feely books like That's not My Monkey...

  • You read to both girls at the same time?  How did DD1 handle that when you first started?  My DD is great with DS, but I'm afraid to start anything that's going to up the jealousy.  I don't want her to feel like DS is invading her special time :)

  • I read DD Room for a Little One (it's a x-mas book my mom got her about baby jesus being born), Good Night Baby, and Goodnight Moon every night. Sometimes during the day I read her other books like the Beatrix Potter one's (Peter Rabbitt and stuff) I need to get more books.

  • I'm glad you asked this question!  I was thinking of asking it too.

We read a lot of Sandra Boynton books with the favorites being "Barnyard Dance" and "Belly Button Book."  Also, every night as part of the bedtime routine, we read "Goodnight Moon."

DD loves Sandra Boynton books and I love reading them aloud! I think Barnyard Dance is my favorite.

Hmmm...we're going to have to try this. I would love to have reading time as a family every night.

  • This might be a silly question, but what part of the bedtime routine do you do book reading?  I have just been doing it randomly during the day but I would love to start including it in our night time routine

Right now we do bath, then bottle and he falls asleep eating.  He is our only LO so no other kids to worry about.

I do it after pj's and before nursing. He usually takes a feeding an hour or so before bed. So, he's not so hungry that he can't focus on the book.

  • There's a cute book, I think it's called You Are All My Favorites and it's about 3 baby bears wondering how their parents love them all equally. It's really sweet. I like to read that to DS & DD at the same time. DD obviously can't understand it yet, but I'm hoping the message gets through to DS.

DS got Pat the Bunny for his first Easter and he tore all the pages out of it so I got a new copy to give DD for her first Easter. :)

Goodnight Moon was a staple with DS. Now he loves all the "Alexander" books. One I would really recommend for older kids (like age 3+) is Pete & Pickles...it's really sweet and DS laughs so much when I read it to him.

  • DD loves all her Eric Carle books, especially the Very Hungry Catepillar.  She also loves Baby Giggles and Baby Colors, they are full of bright colors and pictures of babies.  She loves looking at their faces.

  • DS is really starting to get into listening to me read to him. We read Corduroy, The Monster at the End of the Book(my absolute all time favorite Stick out tongue), The Pokey Little Puppy, & You are my I Love You(our nighttime book). I picked up a few Sesame St. books for his Easter Basket.

  • DD is usually nursing while we read DS his book immediately before bed, but she seems to like to listen to them and will smile and coo when we start to sing the songs.

We have a lot of song books and nursery rhyme books.  We also have a lot of farm animal/tools books since my family is mostly farmers.  DS loves C.o.c.k-A-Doodle Quack Quack and we read that one a lot.  Another favorite is Snuggle Puppy.  He likes it that we sing it differently almost every time.  We also have some Dr Suess, Horton Hears a Who is his favorite.

We also have Pinocchio, Dumbo, Curious George and some Peanuts books.  DS loves to read if you can't tell.  He's starting to try to read to himself too.  Especially with the books he really likes.  He just says nonesense words, but it's super cute.

  • DS loves The Very Hungry Caterpillar and this cute book, How Do I Love You?  He likes Pat the Bunny, too, but always tries to tear it apart when we're reading it.  We'll read Moo, Baa, La La La; Little Quack's New Friend, Good Night Moon, Love You Forever, and Harold and the Purple Crayon sometimes, but he's not nearly as interested.  Next on the list to buy is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom...I can recite it, but don't have a copy for him yet :)
