I don't want to buy maternity clothes!

Sorry for being a PW tonight but this weekend I realized my pants are starting to get tight and I probably don't have much time before I need maternity clothing. I thought this would excite me but when I looked around the mall a bit today I was just depressed and went home empty handed. I guess I was more attached to my fairly mediocre pre-baby body than I thought. I am thinking maybe if I jump start my maternity wardrobe with something awesome maybe it will be easier... any super cute ideas?

This vent was specifically brought on by realizing I probably need a maternity bathing suit for my vacation in May... how depressing...

  • Maternity pants are a gift from the baby Jesus! They are sooooooo comfy!!

  • I was able to wear my favorite jeans with my Bella band yesterday.  I can foresee that working for a while longer.

My mainstay, though, are my Rachel Pally dresses... you can wear them pregnant and not pregnant.  If you want something cute and on trend that you can keep wearing and doesn't scream "MATERNITY DRESS!" I highly recommend her as a designer.

Ha yes I think I need to start there. I am only working four days this week (Friday off) and plan on wearing dresses at least 3 of those days since the pant situation is not good. lol.

  • Tunic shirts, sun dresses and tights are my friends. This is my third pregnancy and I own one pair of gap maternity skinny jeans, a long sweater cardigan and a tankini from MM. That's it three pieces. I do what I can to just by regular clothes that double for maternity. You'd be amazed at what you can find out there. Of course the rub is I wear t-shirts and draw string scrub pants for work.

  • The first time I went to a maternity store I freaked out a bit. All the pants with the big belly panels.. EW. Then out of desperation (nothing fit!) I went to buy a couple pair of black work pants at Motherhood Maternity. I hated buying them, but WOW, now I'm a convert. So freaking comfy!

My favorite "cute" items have been from the sale rack at Pea in the Pod. They have some nice designer-ish dresses and stuff (some I swear aren't even maternity!) that I can wear after the pregnancy but still fit now. They definitely carry full on "maternity" clothes there, but there are also a nice selection of "normal" clothes that are just cut roomier. I have a Max and Cleo printed dress I bought a few weeks back that I adore.

This! I don't need them yet, but when I do I will not fight it.

  • This is me. I have to go into the office 2 days this week and it's business FORMAL. I have a couple skirts I bought about a month ago that are stretchy. I'm hoping they fit, otherwise I have to try and find something maternity and business formal. Given that I live in a very small city, I'm feeling like this will be next to impossible. There is a Target at least, I'm hoping they have something decent. . . . ugh.

Yes  I wish all pants were this comfy. And there are some cute ones out there. I bought a pair for $30 the other day and they make my ass look better than my regular jeans.

Also, with the bathing suit situation, you don't necessarily need to go with a maternity one. I went to a specialty bathing suit store and just bought a tankini that was quite long and the bottoms were great since they fold down for less coverage and up for more.  I couldn't deal with all the ugly maternity ones I found though there are some cute ones online.

  • I went the other day and had no luck other than a bella band.  I think I will have to get by with rubber bands and the bella band until I get the chance to get to a bigger town with more selection, which is 2.5 hours 1 way.  Probably not for a month.  Hopefully my clothes will work till then.

  • I'm right with you about NOT wanting to buy any maternity clothes.  We barely have any winter left, my pants are getting tighter and I refuse to buy a pair of pants that will last me 3 weeks.  I wear tights a lot, super comfy and they go over the tummy, long sweaters and I intend on wearing a lot of sundresses for the summer. I also have a couple pairs of jeans that used to be too big for me and now fit nicely with a belt.  There are other options!

  • Ditto Pea in the Pod sale, but online. Super cute.

  • I felt this way too, but now I wonder why everyone doesn't wear jeans with an elastic waistband!! ;)

  • When I was pregnant with my first the hair tie/rubber band trick held off maternity clothes for weeks!!! (I didn't like the bella band.) But I'm totally with PP, maternity pants are the most comfortable things ever! I also found a pair of maternity leggings at H&M that were sooooo amazing! I never left the house with them on, probably didn't even go on the back porch, but they were awesome! This time around I'm breaking into my maternity clothes asap! Once you're over that hump of "god, I need maternity clothes", there's no looking back!

And I also agree that there are some super cute things out there! You just have to look around a bit.

  • I have purchased a few bigger non-maternity tops that are kinda long. I think they will get me through for a while. I also have several empire waisted dresses that I think will work for a while. You can find some things to avoid buying maternity at least until you are really big. Loft has really cute maternity. Online only. It's pricey but I have a few of their pieces that I got when I was of with DD. They are some of my favorites. I am right there with you on the bathing suit issue. I have been putting off going to look but should probably do that soon.

  • I went with brand bella band that has been a God send. I got 2/$30 off amazon, one white and one black. It took a little getting used to walking around with unbuttoned pants, but I'm used to it now.

  • I went with the demi panel pants instead of the full panel.  I never want to be in regular pants again!  Don't fight it - get yourself to Gap Maternity!

  • I got a bunch of cute stuff from Pea in the Pod, including a pair of maternity jeans.  My friend actually complimented me on them the other day and I showed her they were maternity jeans and she was shocked.  :)

Check their online sales, I got ten things for like $200.

  • Yes, buy maternity pants!  They are the best thing ever.  I broke my out today and I'm nice and comfy!  :)

  • I just indulged in my first few maternity purchases, too!  Motherhood had great tops (just basic tees) that do not look like maternity tops at all!  They were buy 1 get 1 half off.  I signed up for a bunch of e-mails so I can get sale info and coupons for places.

Agree 100% with this! The first time around I put off maternity pants as long as I could in favor of the bella band, this time I'm not even messing with the damn band - straight to my comfy pants please!

  • I love the maxi dresses from Old Navy. They don't even have to be maternity but you can still wear them and you look cute. I also think Target has some cute tops. So far, though, my favorite stuff has come from Burlington.

I literally LOL'd at this one! And I agree! I'm glad I didn't wait until I was totally beyond uncomfortable in my normal pants. I'm holding out on tops until I have more belly tho.
