Is there any SSC that are hip carry? I have an ergo and I know there is some complicated way to convert it, but I don't want to have to readjust my straps all the time.
I just got a used Scootababy- a ssc specifically made for hip carries, it has fleece that cups the shoulder instead of a strap digging into your neck. My shoulders/back can't handle hip carries in a sling and as you mentioned the ergo is a PITA for hip carries. So far I really like it. I wouldn't recommend it for long periods of time, b/c even w/ the waist support it puts pressure on the shoulder after awhile- but it's perfect for trips to the grocery store and around the house.

Ahh the scootababy looks great! I looked online at my local stores and it doesn't seem that any carry it for me to try first. But once ds hits the minimum age I think I will give that a try from an online store that does returns just in case.
Whats a shorty? Sorry! Is that a wrap? I am bfing and being able to nurse while he is in a carrier would be something I'm interested in. I was never successful doing that with the ergo with my dd. I do have a sling, but find it difficult with ds too, unless I'm sitting which defeats the purpose.
I bought a ring sling. Neither my mei tai or Ergo are comfortable for a hip carry at all.
I do have a ring sling, but never thought to hip carry in it. I'll give that a try, thanks! Is there an age minimum for that?
If you're carrying your baby with your arms on your hip, you can do it with a carrier. The guidelines say wait until baby can sit alone, but I think as long as they're sitting well assisted it works fine. Just make sure it's snug and that the shoulder side cups your shoulder (not digs into your neck). A pouch or ring sling are both great for hip carries.

Paxbaby sells them new w/ a 90-day return policy. But I've seen them fairly often used for 1/2 the price on thebabywearer or diaperswappers or ebay.

Yes, a shorty is a woven wrap, usually a size 2 (2.7m) or 3 (3.1m). I've never been really successful at nursing in any of my carriers, it's just awkward- maybe it's b/c I'm short-torsoed and have smallish boobs. I've never really had a situation when I couldn't take the time to sit down and BF. I'm sure when I have more than 1 child to chase around I'll have to figure it out though.

The Beco Gemini does a hip carry also but I've never tried it.
