Preemies

Almost 31 weeks, and I am now on bed rest.

So on Thursday morning, I felt a gush of blood.  We took my 22 month old son to daycare.  And I went to Triage at the hospital.  I had an ultrasound.  My partial placenta previa is actually complete placenta previa.  The good news is that my cervix is closed, and it is 3.5.  They admitted me to the antepartum unit for hospital bedrest.  They said that my uterus was irritable (gotta love that term), and that I was having some contractions (even though I could not feel most of them).  They gave me a pill to stop the contractions.  And I got two steriods shots 24 hours apart to help the baby's lungs just in case she was born.  I did good the first day, and it was relaxing to take it easy.  But I was going crazy by the second day of hospital bed rest, because I kept thinking about the bills that I was acculating and there was not very good access to some internet websites on the Ipads that they had at the hospital.  It was also hard not being around my 22 month old son.  When he came to visit me, I could hear "Mama, Mama" through the door, and there was not very much room for my son to play in the room.  Anyway, I requested that I be released yesterday, and I am doing home bed rest.  My son was born close to 31 weeks by natural childbirth, and he came really fast.  So this will actually be Monday for my baby girl, 30 weeks 6 days, It is kinda that crazy feeling of this is all I know as a mother is having my child at 31 weeks.  But knowing that they are not going to give me c-section until I am really bleeding or they cannot stop the contractions.  And I am not sure when this will happen.  It is hard to sleep and to breathe.  I feel better seeing my son at home.  It just makes me smile.  He looks at my belly and he will sign and say "Baby".  It is really cute.

  • Oh, mama, bless your heart!  I was on bedrest with DS while DD was a toddler and it was rough, too.  You are in the best place to be monitored, and you know that every day in the oven can make the difference.  I also like the adjective "irritable" for your uterus, just as my cervix was "incompetent."  It is ironic, kind of funny, and way too accurate.  Wink Keep us posted.  My thoughts are with you.

  • Hang in there and lots of hugs! I can't imagine how hard it must be to worry about your toddler on top of everything else.  I can sympathize with bed rest (hospital and home) though. Personally, I think home is always better if possible.  There are even studies that show that people on hospital bed rest tend to deliver sooner because of stress etc.  When I got released (after a week), it was such a relief just to have my own bed and see my husband and pets!  I ended up going another 6 weeks, and I'm convinced that I wouldn't have gone that far had they kept me in the hospital indefinitely.

Good luck with everything and keep us posted - we're rooting for you to stay healthy and keep cooking your LO!

  • Good luck with the bed rest!  It must be so much harder to be on bed rest with a toddler.  And he's so cute btw.  Keep us posted.
